Edit request[edit]

Hey Physdragon: Thanks for this information. This is all still quite confusing to me, so I was hoping to start with making a few requests to update the Randy Jirtle website - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Jirtle. You state that "personal website and CV are not appropriate references for a wikipedia article." You can delete references [2] and [3] if you think this is appropriate.

If you think new references should be included, I request the addition of this URL as a reference (https://www.engr.wisc.edu/alumnus-randy-jirtle-receives-2019-alexander-hollaender-award/) cite it for both references [2] and [3] since at the bottom of the article it clearly states my present university affiliations. Then you can simply add this new reference, and cite it in the website.

Alternatively, for reference [2] you could add the URL (https://www.wisc.edu/directories/person/?q=Randy%20Jirtle&email=rjirtle@wisc.edu&savedQuery=jirtle&returnPath=/directories/), and for reference [3] you could add the URL (https://bio.sciences.ncsu.edu/people/rljirtle/). The thing I don't like about this approach is that my University email addresses are on these directory links, and I would just as soon NOT make them easily available through this website. Nevertheless, it does provide you with clear documentation that I am presently on the faculty at both Nc State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Thank you for considering my request for these two changes.174.109.28.70 (talk) 14:17, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have replaced the two instances of the personal website being used as references, and effected a general cleanup of the promotional wording and content, including text which was insufficiently paraphrased from the source material. Regards,  Spintendo  15:23, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request edit[edit]

Hey Spintendo: Thank you very much for making the changes I requested, and for the other changes you made to the webpage. I would appreciate it if you would determine if the changes I have requested below are appropriate, and making them if possible. I may still not have the appropriate format for making changes, but I hope you will be able to understand what I would like changed. Thank you for your patience.

Extended content

1) I am on the editorial boards of additional journals. Therefore, I would like the sentence on the Randy Jirtle Wikipedia webpage Jirtle is on the Editorial Board of the journal Environmental Epigenetics published by Oxford University Press.[20] replaced with Jirtle is on the Editorial Board of the journals Epigenomics published by Future Medicine www.futuremedicine.com/journals/epi/editors, Epigenetics published by Taylor & Francis www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?show=editorialBoard&journalCode=kepi20, and Environmental Epigenetics published by Oxford University Press[20].

2) I have received a number of awards and recognitions for my epigenetics research. Therefore, I would like sentence on the Randy Jirtle Wikipedia webpage In 2007 Jirtle was nominated to be Time Magazine’s Person of the Year by Dr. Nora Volkow, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse.[21] replaced with Jirtle was honored in 2006 with the Distinguished Achievement Award from the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison www.engr.wisc.edu/2006-distinguished-career-award-randy-jirtle/. In 2007, Jirtle was nominated for Time Magazine’s Person of the Year by Dr. Nora Volkow, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse[21]. He was a featured scientist on the PBS NOVA television program on epigenetics in 2007 entitled Ghost in Your Genes www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/genes/. He was the inaugural recipient of the Epigenetic Medicine Awardwww.opednews.com/populum/page.php?f=NEW-EPIGENETIC-SCIENCE-AWA-by-Meryl-Ann-Butler-080530-226.html In 2009, Jirtle received the STARS Lecture Award in Nutrition and Cancer from the National Cancer Institutevideocast.nih.gov/summary.asp?Live=7781&bhcp=1. Dr. Jirtle was invited in 2012 to present the NIH Director’s WALS lecturevideocast.nih.gov/summary.asp?Live=10520&bhcp=1. He received the Linus Pauling Award from the Institute of Functional Medicine in 2014www.ifm.org/news-insights/randy-jirtle-phd-receives-linus-pauling-award/. ShortCutsTV www.shortcutstv.com produced a documentary in 2017, based upon Jirtle’s epigenetic research, entitled, Are You What Your Mother Ate? The Agouti Mouse Studywww.youtube.com/watch?v=VM37fh5ykbg&feature=youtu.be. He received in 2018 the Northern Communities Health Foundation Visiting Professorship Award at the University of Adelaide in Australiawww.youtube.com/watch?v=Fhrs644pqUc. Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute presented Jirtle with the Research and Innovation Leadership Award in 2019plminstitute.org/2019-thought-leaders-consortium-schedule/. In 2019, he also received the Alexander Hollaender Award www.emgs-us.org/blog/emgs-is-proud-to-announce-the-2019-alexander-hollaender-and-emgs-award-recipients from the Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society stating, The award recognizes Dr. Jirtle’s discovery that the environment can influence inheritance of phenotypic traits through epigenetic reprogramming representing one of the most important scientific advances of the 21st century.

3) Workplaces: I was a Visiting Professor at the University of Adelaide in 2018. Therefore, I would like the workplaces statement on the Randy Jirtle Wikipedia webpage Duke University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Bedfordshire, North Carolina State University to be replaced with Duke University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Bedfordshire, North Carolina State University, and University of Adelaide.

4) Website: I would like the website randyjirltle.com on the Randy Jirtle Wikipedia replaced with geneimprint.com. This is the epigenetics/genomic imprinting website that I have maintain since around 1995. It is mainly used by scientists to obtain information about epigenetics and imprinted genes; those genes whose expression is regulated epigenetically. I personally maintain this website to facilitate epigenetic research. I receive no money from this site, and as you can see there are NO advertisements on this site. It is like websites were in the ‘old days’ – informational and clean!

5) Reference 21: The link for this reference is no longer functional. Please use content.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1682261,00.html.

6) Image: I would like the older image of me ‘Randy Jirtle.jpg’ replaced with Randy Jirtle 2019.jpg . I have uploaded this photo to Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Portrait_of_Randy_Jirtle_2019.jpg#Summary, but I do not know how to upload the PDF copyright release I received from Portrait Innovations allowing use of this photo electronically.

Thank you for consdering these changes for inclusion on the Randy Jirtle webpage. If you have questions, I look forward to trying to answer them.174.109.28.70 (talk) 19:20, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  Clarification requested

  • In the case of the awards, please supply the Wikilink to the awards pages found within Wikipedia. For example, a link to the STARS Lecture Award in Nutrition and Cancer's page on Wikipedia should be supplied.
  • I have removed the |website= parameter from the infobox.
  • When ready to proceed with the requested information, kindly change the {{request edit}} template's answer parameter to read from |ans=yes to |ans=no. Thank you!
