Notability

Per WP:NFF, unreleased films do not generally merit articles, unless there is significant coverage of some notable aspect of the production itself(such as a notable incident during the production, as with Rust (suspended film). Suggest that this be draftified until the film is released. 331dot (talk) 11:25, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

Plot in lead/premise section

Evidence it's not a myth
Of course, there's images and images.

Needs to be rewritten at some point, because "whether the Ram Setu bridge is a myth or a reality." makes no sense. But, it's what the source says, so at least it makes some WP-sense. Hopefully better written sources will be available after release. Somewhat surprised to learn that the actress has some interesting movies in her kitty ([1]) Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:38, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Yaa.. the lead will need much work, the current is just temporary, it'll be changed once the film is released and what the story is actually about. For now it's just WP:CRYSTAL and mirrors the sources. The image actually is a good idea and makes perfect sense. I'm guessing the article probably will end up having a "historical accuracy" section of some sorts, placing image here is ideal — DaxServer (t · m · c) 20:18, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
There're few more images on Adam's Bridge article and on Commons, so we could pick — DaxServer (t · m · c) 20:21, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
We'll see what fits per WP:FILMHIST. More "Inspiration" than "historical accuracy" perhaps, but it will depend on sources. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:11, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
And editors will have great fun arguing if it should be Ram Setu or Adam's Bridge in article text (not the film-title, the thing on the satellite-photo). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:16, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
I just noted another source that insists "Ram Setu revolves around the life of an archaeologist who is set out to check whether the Ram Setu bridge is a myth or a reality." Seriously, I've seen pictures!! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:44, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
I do hope the lead phrase I added is not a WP:CLOPDaxServer (t · m · c) 09:20, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Marketing

I've removed a sentence as I'm unable to find a citation. There's one from Koimoi but we don't consider it per WP:ICTF

When the film was announced in November 2020, two first-look posters were released – one in English with a tagline "Myth or reality?" and another in Hindi with a tagline "Sach ya kalpana?".[1] The posters depicted Akshay Kumar wearing a saffron scarf with an image of Rama in the background. They received mixed reactions, both cheering for the new film[citation needed] and criticizing on social media for casting a doubt over the events in religious history.[2]

Sources

@AngusWOOF The Times of India WP:TOI is considered a reliable source for film articles within the WP:ICTF context. Would you be willing to re-review the draft? — DaxServer (t · m · c) 07:57, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Like WP:RSP says, "Context matters tremendously, and some sources may or may not be suitable for certain uses depending on the situation." Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:38, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
DaxServer, treat Times of India like Tellychakkar and Daily Mail. While it is likely to cover the media or person or event, there should be a different news source that communicates the same information. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 15:49, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
If you dispute the reliability of TOI in the context of film articles, please take it up at WT:ICTF, and perhaps better at WP:RSN. Nevertheless, I'll try to gather some sources to satisfy this request — DaxServer (t · m · c) 16:00, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
DaxServer, RSN might be good to discuss. You'll have to show WP:RSP that entertainment articles can be an exception. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 16:26, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
@AngusWOOF In the time being, would you mind commenting which refs you think need to have better sources in this version? Ref numbers are fine — DaxServer (t · m · c) 17:32, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
DaxServer, anything linked to Times of India articles. I thought that was made clear in my AFC feedback? If you need a bot to go through the article and nitpick unreliable sources you can visit User:Headbomb/unreliable, but that tends to nitpick all the social media posts. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 18:46, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
@AngusWOOF Your request is unreasonable. Like @Gråbergs Gråa Sång quoted from WP:RSP, "context matters tremendously when determining how to use this list". TOI is reliable within the context of WP:ICTF and if you do not accept that, let us know. Also, TOI is not a deprecated source which should be excluded. I have in either case updated the citations, except 5 of them, of which some are exclusive — DaxServer (t · m · c) 18:53, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
I went ahead and removed TOI for now, replacing with Bollywood Hungama, Pinkvilla, India TV, and Screen Daily. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 19:34, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for updates! — DaxServer (t · m · c) 19:34, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Madh Island

@AngusWOOF In this edit you stated "pinkvilla's good enough to confirm akshay testing positive". If you look at the Pinkvilla source, it refers back to TOI (see my earlier edit). Comments ? — DaxServer (t · m · c) 19:15, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

DaxServer, I added an India TV article to support the same statements about the planned film shooting date and the location. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 19:33, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! — DaxServer (t · m · c) 19:34, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
DaxServer, yeah it's kinda silly that Pinkvilla can cite TOI, but again, the event has been covered by other major news groups. Also The Economic Times is owned by The Times Group which owns TOI. That the previous article had 5 TOI refs out of 30-something was what was bothersome. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 20:13, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
Yes indeed, several news outlets are owned by the same groups — DaxServer (t · m · c) 21:03, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

The name of the thing

Attempt to reach some sort of local consensus.

Editors may know that the title of a related WP-article is Adam's Bridge, and that there has been a bit of discussion around that, the last major one at [2]. The name of this film is of course Ram Setu, but it seems likely that the chain of natural limestone shoals will be mentioned a few times as well, perhaps more so when there is some plot and reaction and whatnot to include.

Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names)#General_guidelines #3 indicates that "Adam's Bridge" should be consistently used for the "thing", but you know, guideline. If there is local consensus for something else, fine. A consensus could be helpful in reducing bickering.

I'm fine with the above convention (may sound a little funny in article-text though), but can accept something like "Ram Setu (Adam's Bridge)" as first mention (lead/body) and in image captions etc, then just "Ram Setu" when needed.

Opinions, Wikipedians? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:37, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Gråbergs Gråa Sång, I would treat it like those live-action films with the same title as with Yellowstone (British TV series) or JFK (film), so the lead sentence doesn't have the immediate link to Ram Setu, but the follow-up sentence or phrase can talk about and link to the actual formation. I'd also set up the lead sentence with the Ram Setu (transl. Adam's Bridge). AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 18:56, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
@AngusWOOF I wasn't actually considering the transl. parenthesis, and Adam's Bridge isn't actually a translation of Ram Setu, is it? I think "Ram Setu (transl.Rama's bridge)" is fine the way it is, probably the point of the film. The lead-sentence as currently written doesn't have the immediate link, so no problem there. The link is in the third sentence. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:06, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Reception

My personal preference is to name the publications, but not the reviewers, unless perhaps if they have a WP-article of their own. However, I don't know if there's any written guidance on this somewhere. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:03, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

There's no written guidance for this one afaik. In almost all the articles, we name the reviewers as sometimes, lest [almost] always, they don't represent the publication and vice versa — DaxServer (t · m · c) 12:32, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
It seems there is something at MOS:FILMCRITICS - Individual critics can also be referenced to detail various aspects of the film. Professional film critics are regarded as reliable sources, though reputable commentators and experts—connected to the film or to topics covered by the film—may also be cited.DaxServer (t · m · c) 10:23, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Rotten Tomatoes

@Khiladi King Why did you remove the Rotten Tomatoes aggregation reporting? — DaxServer (t · m · c) 15:25, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Mixed reviews?

The article refers to MensXP and Business Today (India) to determine that the movie received mixed reviews. I propose to replace both with The Indian Express

  • MensXP: "India's Largest Men's Lifestyle Destination" (from its website) - more or less a blog and thus unreliable. Also part of Times Internet, part of The Times Group, which owns The Times of India.[1]
  • Business Today: Primarily a business-related publication. It would be reliable to quote business related info, but not discussing the overall summary of the critics of the film.[2]
  • The Indian Express: Trusted and reliable publication[3][4]

Any further sources are welcome

DaxServer (t · m · c) 13:59, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

@DaxServer One issue here is IE tends to give more weightage to their own review of the film. Since MensXP and Business Today don't generally publish film review, their statement might actually be more neutral than IE. -- Ab207 (talk) 06:14, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
IE tends to give more weightage to their own review of the film - Citation needed. TrangaBellam (talk) 06:15, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
I don't see how mensxp is remotely acceptable as a source. No comment on anything else at the moment. Vanamonde (Talk) 15:57, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
Hey Ab207, MensXP is a lifestyle blog and not an RS. Since Business Today doesn't generally publish film-related news, I'd argue they don't have the expertise to dissect the reviews and the reviewers. They seem to publish a lot of "trending news" that aren't related to their core reporting. I would take these trending stories with a pinch of a salt ;) — DaxServer (t · m · c) 15:24, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Hey, @DaxServer. Thanks for the ping. My statement is based on an earlier discussion with an other user at Talk:Dobaaraa. Personally, I don't see how MensXP qualitatively differs from entertainment articles of other Indian news websites, many of which have similar level of editorial control but I don't feel strongly about it either. Cheers -- Ab207 (talk) 16:35, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Zee News and Zee Studios are controlled by Essel Group. Using Zee News for content other than facts and non-controversial info could be constituted as a financial+legal conflict of interest. Using it to derive the summarization of reviews is not independent and as such it shouldn't be used. • Current lead: "opened to negative reviews from critics." Current body: "Ram Setu received generally mixed reviews from critics." In a WP-article, these should match better. A consensus would be good. My impression of the reviews in the article is that something like "generally negative" might fit, but I haven't looked that closely.
