Article not quite written by Smith himself?[edit]

Unbelievable!! This article was obviously written by Quentin Smith himself and is replete with extraordinary bias (he is obviously a very intelligent but profoundly self-absorbed megalomaniac as anyone can see from his web site!!) but no one has caught on in to this in all this time. Come one now, folks!!--62.11.130.2 14:59, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • A more charitable interpretation would suggest that the entry was written by a student of Smith's. Although it is true that the entry is biased (as I noted in my first edit; see history), it does contain some valuable material. It should therefore be improved upon, rather than removed entirely. I am a former graduate student of Smith's, and I have written part of this (notice I said 'part'). Atomist 22:32, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Atomist[reply]

7/15/06 The edits of July 8 & 15 were me trying to fix the coding that make the sentence starting “Smith refused to surround himself…” run on one continuous line. I fixed the other coding issues like this but can’t figure out this one. Also added book listing & description. Reader of Smith’s work, not a student-

For the record, most of the content here is from User:69.221.226.195, which resolves to ppp-69-221-226-195.dsl.klmzmi.ameritech.net - notice the "klmzmi", which stands for "Kalamazoo, Michigan". FranksValli 00:45, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously biased, needs significant revisions[edit]

Smith is probably worthy of an entry, but this is a gushy, uncritical article that rambles on and on. Probably written by one of Smith's former graduate students who uncritically worships him. Needs significant revisions.

Article reads like an essay[edit]

Smith is a signifcant philosopher of religion and has publcihed many books on time and so on. But this article needs to be tranformed from a laudatory essay into something more encylopedic. There are lOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG quotes from Smith. These can be cut down a bit. It's hard to figure out how to reorgainze the current material into sections with headings and so on, though. --Francesco Franco aka Lacatosias 13:22, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Atheist[edit]

According to this source: http://www.arn.org/docs2/news/Hageman011104.htm, he's an atheist.

  • Quick! Call the brain police! Athiesm is kind of common with philosophers. ;) That said, yes, Quentins a fantastic philosopher, but the article *IS* a little gushy. 58.7.0.146 10:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think this is in reference to the claim about philosophy of religion. Many philosophers of religion are atheists.

Biased[edit]

This needs revision. I would not be surprised if the last line read "Now all bow down before Smith the Great!" —The preceding comment was added by Pfrrp (talkcontribs) 18:07, 22 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

help[edit]

i tried to revise this article, but I mainly just highlighted a bunhc of lines and hit "delete." Someone double check what I did to make sure I am not being to liberal with that delte button.Rugz 18:20, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Conventionality[edit]

Why is there a heading on conventionality at all? It seems unnecessary (and false). There is also no reference of the Kripke/Marcus plagiarism controversy which is at least worth mentioning (it is, after all, the reason why most people have heard of him).

Removed this from the article[edit]

He had leukemia in 2005, and in 2014 this page came out suggesting he is "not doing okay" (see the comments): http://www.patheos.com/blogs/secularoutpost/2014/07/14/what-happened-to-quentin-smith/.

Just because it was not cited or well-formatted.
