Citation Needed for Lindsay Ashford being the first woman[edit]

Lindsay Ashford Journalist and novelist, the first woman to graduate from Queens' College[5][citation needed]

The reference goes to a 404 page and was the journalist's own website anyway...also there is a woman listed as a graduate earlier in the list, Emily Maitlis.

It's possible, though not under that surname. There was a female student 1980-81 reading a one-year Master's course in Criminology. Being a one-year student, she would have graduated before all the first female undergraduates of 1980. In the table in the article, this "Lindsay Ashford" is chronologically misplaced: to have joined as a postgraduate in the first cohort of women in 1980, she would need a year of birth of around 1959. --Rdhw (talk) 21:54, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request edit[edit]

Hello - the Fellows of Queens' College have spotted an error in the first sentence of the Wiki entry. Queens' is not, first and foremost, a conference centre, but rather one of the oldest Colleges, part of the University of Cambridge (and it occasionally holds conferences out of term time as with the other colleges). May we request that you remove the first sentence and begin with the second sentence - which is factually correct:


Sentence to remove: <Queens' College is a conference centre affiliated to the University of Cambridge, England.>

Please keep: <Queens' is one of the oldest and largest colleges of the university, founded in 1448 by Margaret of Anjou (the Queen of Henry VI, who founded King's College), and has some of the most recognisable buildings in Cambridge. The college spans both sides of the river Cam, colloquially referred to as the "light side" and the "dark side", with the world-famous Mathematical Bridge connecting the two.>

Context for outsiders: There is currently (and has been for a while) a bit of tension between college and the JCR (student body) over the use of college facilities such as rooms or catering services for conferences. Some say that the money from this is an important part of the college's income and others say that conferences are disruptive to students. In any case, we can expect further disruption to this page. Queen's or Queens'?[edit]

Which one is it? The usage on the page is inconsistent. Py0alb (talk) 14:41, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Its normally Queens', though in its full name its Queen's. I have checked the article however and the usage is not inconsistent at all. The article clearly explains the difference between the short and long names. The only instances of Queen's is when the long name is used or when the move from Queen's to Queens' is being explained, every instance of Queen's is contextualised.
