In the US Pursers are not Licensed, they hold Certificates of Registry.[edit]

In the US Pursers are not licensed, they hold Certificates of Registry. It is a small but important distinction. The requirements are slightly less stringent than those required for a license officer. Acruxksa (talk) 23:38, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Too historical in nature[edit]

This article, as it stands, is too focused on pursers in a historical context. It needs a solid discussion of the role of the purser on modern merchant vessels and passenger vessels. It could also use a discussion of the historical role of non-Naval pursers. Despite having sailed on ships with pursers, and having some grasp of the importance of their role, I am not sufficiently knowledgeable to be able to expand this article as needed. I encourage someone with this knowledge to appropriately expand it. Ray Trygstad (talk) 22:56, 1 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
