That article is about the cultural aspect in Japan. I think it can be useful to separate this articles like it seemed it was agreed on in order to not mix up this dedicated scientific article with culture. The page title is obsolete[edit]

Hi. According to this Tropicos page, "Prunus serrulata" seems to be a basionym, i.e. an obsolete name. I'm not conversant with botany, so please someone fix it. Thanks. --Ahora (talk) 07:13, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an "Accepted" name per Plantlist. Tropicos does refer to Prunus serrulata as a basionym, but this is not necessarily an obsolete name. Fundamental questions about the classification of Prunus serrulata[edit]

I am not an expert on plants, I just read a book by Toshio Katsuki, an authority on cherry taxonomy at the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute in Japan, but I have a big question about this article. If my understanding is correct, Prunus serrulata refers only to the cultivars that resulted from the interspecific hybrids of various Japanese wild species, especially Oshima cherry (known in Japan as the Sato-Zakura group), and Asian wild species should not be included in Prunus serrulata.--SLIMHANNYA (talk) 16:25, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
