Chart Performance for CCR Incorrect[edit]

The CCR version never made the Top 20, Ike and Tina Turner's version made it to # 2 and won a Grammy Award (1993 Book - Encyclopedia of Rock Stars). The website referenced is incorrect which happens a lot when items are being transferred to the internet. Hahaha On the (almost) 10th Anniversary of this unidentified comment, let's set the record straight. Proud Mary by CCR peaked at the no.2 position three straight weeks in March 1969, and was in the top ten for seven weeks. If you need a citation, google Billboard magazine from January 25, 1969 forward, or skip straight to March for the peak action. Google has all the issues scanned, flip to the Hot100. We all make mistakes Mr. Anonymous, but this one is really embarrassing for you, because you made it sound well researched with all the irrelevant extra details. Why does the section for the recent use in an AA advert link to the company website? Shouldn't it link to the wikipedia page for the company?

Blocked from #1[edit]

imho I would refrain from the term "blocked", which I see around here too often. It makes the author sound like an advocate for the song that didn't make no. 1, whether intended or not. Not a big deal. btw, Everyday and Dizzy were both bigger hits than Proud Mary (both held no. 1 spot for four weeks and made top 10 for the year. Proud Mary was no. 21). "It's not relevant", "That's just trivia" I agree, but these song pages would be empty without some irrelevant trivia. :-) Tillywilly17 (talk) 22:23, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MetroLyrics[edit]

This page, like the pages for many other songs, links to MetroLyrics. However, apparently MetroLyrics no longer exists. So this is not so much a HEADS UP to someone who could replace the link on this page (I could do that myself), but more to someone who knows how to replace/rewrite/remove links throughout Wikipedia.

release date[edit]

I am still working on this, but current text says

It was released by Fantasy Records as a single from the band's second studio album, Bayou Country, which was issued by the same record company and is generally considered to have been released in early January 1969, although one source states that it came out just before Christmas 1968.

I want to edit the "same record company" line, snd update the rest, but not without good reasons. Discogs has December 1968. that is their guess. I found a full page advert in Dec 28 1968 Record World that says "PROUD MARY is a-Comin'!". The steamboat or release of the record? I am going to post it as the article pic to see how it looks, if you guys don't like it, revert me in a couple of days. It's a song picture from Fantasy records instead of the usual band picture, please leave it for two days then change it back if it sucks. Remember the date was Dec 28. Despite the article's reference, 9 January 1969 cannot possibly be the release date. Among other reasons: 

 (1) on the 11 January issue of Billboard, the record "Bubbled Under" at 115, under that week's Hot 100, and because Billboard deadlines were more than a week before publication dates back then, the record must have been released more than a week before 11 January 1969
 (2) the 4 January 1969 issue of Billboard had a review of the record, and the 4 January 1969 issue of Cash Box mentioned the record, meaning that the record must have been released before 4 January 1969
 (3) the 28 December 1968 issue of Record World had an advertisement for the record, meaning that the record must have been released before 28 December 1968
 (4) the Grammy Hall of Fame Award Recipients article in Wikipedia lists a 1968 release date  98.149.97.245 (talk) 21:19, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
