Famous People Section - Sean Hughes

The Famous People Section reads

"Sean Hughes was born here in 1965, he has therefore outlived Kwik Save."

Has anyone noticed

I lived there from one year old to 18 years old. I haven't yet visited the whole of Planet Earth but the bits I've seen lead to believe that you might be right. Tony Drago

I've cut the whole "Tony Drago" section from this article. I don't know if it was supposed to be humorous but it was pointless trivia. It just said: "Tony Drago hates Prestatyn." Silverwood (talk) 09:16, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Domesday book

How does it happen that Prestatyn is mentioned in the Domesday book when the Domesday book only extended to England (and not even all of that ). Can anybody explain before I delete the passage? Velela (talk) 12:29, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm no expert on the Domesday Book, but presumably from the references I've just added for verification this part of Wales might have been historically part of Cheshire.Snowy 1973 (talk) 17:07, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

As I understand it (though it's quite hard to track down suitable references) most of what became Flintshire was known in Welsh as Tegeingl, and was then conquered by Mercia around the 8th century. It was then fought over between the Welsh and English for several centuries, and at the time of Domesday it was in English hands and known as Englefield. Later - by about the 13th century? - it became Welsh again. There's a big need for an article or two about Tegeingl / Englefield. Ghmyrtle (talk) 23:07, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Prestatyn Castle

Does anyone have any more info on the Castle as I have traced back that the Banistre Family where evicted from their family seat at Prestatyn Castle in Wales in 1240 and moved to Lancashire and Cheshire. Their Lancashire family seat later becoming Bank Hall. I was just wondering if anyone can help me out on this one a bit and possibly any information on the family? Many thanks. pronunciation

Isn't the stress on the second syllable? That's certainly implied by this sentence:

"...this village's name developed a typically Welsh emphasis on the penultimate syllable and a modification of "ton" to "tyn", as also happened at Mostyn." Lfh (talk) 16:07, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes. I've changed the IPA, but don't know if the stress should come before or after the 's'. Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:13, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Probably before - if it were between 's' and 't' then the 't' would be aspirated, which I don't think it is (although that's just a guess). But isn't the 'a' pronounced /æ/ like "tat"? Lfh (talk) 16:39, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
