Name[edit]

Shouldn't this be at Spokesperson of the president of the Philippines or Presidential spokesperson (Philippines)? Howard the Duck (talk) 00:47, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It could either way. Nonparenthetical disambiguation is usually preferred, the first option in my opinion is a mouthful contrary to WP:CONCISE. That's a good point. President of the Senate of the Philippines. Though afaik, its titled that way because the existing articles on other countries' counterparts are also titled that way "President of the Senate of X". There are no other "presidential spokesperson" articles for other countries. A similar role would be "Spokesperson of the Government of X".

The Official Gazette does use "Senate President of the Philippines" for example though. Maybe we a formal move discussion could be opened?Hariboneagle927 (talk) 14:49, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another example is "House Speaker of the Philippines." Lord Allan Velasco is not the state's House Speaker, he is the "Speaker of the House of Representatives," and the House of Representatives alone.

One exemption is the Chief Justice, as he is not just the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, but of the state as well.

I don't believe Harry Roque spoke for the state, but for the president.

As for the Gazette, it remains to be seen if it was indeed the actual usage in 1946, or still is in 2021. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:47, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to search for usage of "Presidential spokesperson of the Philippines", but can't find any usage, since most news article are Philippine-based so it would be implied that "presidential spokesperson" refers to someone who relays the stance of the President of the Philippines. The only instance where I could find is "Presidential spokesperson of the Philippines" from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 15:28, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Distinguish the two roles[edit]

@Hariboneagle927: two roles need to be distinguished in the articles, as Presidential spokesperson (Philippines) currently says "The Press Secretary (now the Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary) has historically assumed the role", but the two articles have different and non-overlapping lists of people. – Fayenatic London 09:43, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
