Neutrality dispute[edit]

The language used to present the information on the topic has a subjective, negative slant. None of the three sources cited state negative aspects, like the crudeness of tools or unwillingness of parents; in fact, the sources present it as a positive, substantial change in the life of a child. In the interest of neutrality, the language should be edited, and perhaps if more sources could be found to make concrete claims of negative consequences, that can be its own section. Some ideas for improvement[edit]

This article could be improved by covering the history of this practice. What's the earliest recorded mention of the practice? What are some of the oldest bodies that show signs of tooth filing? When do the practitioners of this ritual believe it began to be practiced? Is it believed to come from an ancestral figure, or a command by some spirit, god, or similar? In modern times, does the practice remain common? Is there any controversy surrounding this practice among the locals? What do local medical authorities have to say about the subject, if anything? Also, what languages are the various terms mentioned at the beginning of the article? Are they all in Balinese? It would be good to explain the relationship between the various terms, and maybe add a translation. Also provide the spelling in the local script (if applicable). According to the second reference, this ritual is practiced by Balinese Hindus. Does anyone know if a similar ritual is held by other Hindus? Or is a unique feature of Balinese Hinduism? In the first case, the relationship to similar ritual should be mentioned. In the second case, it would be interesting to note where this ritual came from.
