Two sizes?

This npr story says they were bread in two sizes. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9348104 --Gbleem 11:14, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Not really. There are different "types" of the breed, the standard range for the breed is quite large. The NPR story does have some inaccuracies, more likely attributed to the researchers not really understanding the breed. Bluegrace 08:45, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Wikiproject Dog & Picture Maintenance

Could someone please clarify the standards for pictures in this article, in terms of quantity. There seems to be a large fluctuation of pictures being added and removed. I know there are no doubt some users who want their pet featured in the article, as is a testament to the popularity and integrity of the breed. The pictures recently removed as per Wikiproject Dog were relevant, albeit numerous and a bit cluttered. I guess what I'm saying is, I believe it was more of a format and organization issue rather than an issue of relevance to the article. Thoughts?

It's not an issue of literal relevance. Of course images of PWDs are relevant to this article. The number of images isn't really managed by any specific number across the board, but rather by seeking a balance between covering all varieties of the breed standard, hopefully a representation of different ages, and the unique uses of the breed. A proper ratio of images to text content trumps all those factors, but we still work hard to keep as many informative images as possible. When images are repetitive or have no encyclopedic merit, the less-quality and less informative images are often removed. Per discussion consensus (and the following policies) all gallery sections completely divorced from encyclopedic content have been removed, as they have become dumping grounds for useless images. the policies that support the cleanup are WP:NOT and WP:Images#Image choice and placement. Retrofit topic-year headers

23-April-2008: To help organize topics here, I put "Topics from 2006" (etc.) in the talk page above, adding the top intro line. I also retro-named the first topic as "Illicit drugs" adding a retro-signature for October 2006. -Wikid77 (talk) 08:23, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup April 2008

23-April-2008: I have begun formal cleanup of the article "Portuguese Water Dog" by correcting spelling, punctuation, and links as follows:

  • fixed 10 spellings: "fishermas'"/"sliver"/ "resposible"/"brom"/"especlly"/ "traditioal"/ etc.;
  • added sources in some unreferenced areas;
  • tagged disease section: { {cleanup|section|date=April 2008}};
  • raised bottom image putting lowercase caption;
  • in section "Coat types" put 2 bullets;
  • put "Some" to replace unprovable "Most, if not all";
  • fixed "is a a triangular";
  • adjusted 7 quotation marks in Wikipedia style of "logical quotations";
  • combined duplicate ref-tag footnotes;
  • linked "couch potato";
  • removed unfinished bottom navbox "{{fishing industry}}" as still a draft-level navbox;
  • adjusted many areas for text spacing.

Because there were 10 spelling problems, probably more remain. I didn't read every sentence, and more cleanup similar to the above is needed. -Wikid77 (talk) 09:03, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

"Avalade" or "Alvalade"

There is mentioned in several places to the "Avalade Kennels". In other places in the internet I've found "Alvalade" instead of "Avalade". Which one is correct? I do know of a neighborhood in Lisbon called "Alvalade", but I've never heard of a place called "Avalade". LBA

Indeed, it must be "Alvalade". Húsönd 06:43, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

BARK

The group BARK is mentioned in the article. I didn't see an explanation. I assume it stands for Bay Area something something. It should be explained on first mention, or, even better, the abbreviation could be omitted entirely and the whole name substituted, if that conforms to how it is used. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geneven (talkcontribs) 22:46, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
