These are subjective to me, but I hope it reflects what the general consensus might be.

"She was born in the year the tunnel was completed."
- The tunnel is not referenced at this point, and is fairly trivial.
  - Re-added later, it's quite important since it's the origin of the name
"Repairs" when it comes to dynamite drilling
- This is probably not the preferred translation, although it's technically accurate. It's very rarely, if ever, used.
  - "Shelter" was a better word. Tried to fix it

Things I am confused about

"Extraction began in 1600, but became relevant only in the early 1900s."
- relevant how? politically relevant? economically relevant?
  - Economically. Explained better
"The extraction, especially of the coal caves, was operated on a low-technology basis. Metal gathering enjoyed more modern techniques, as it was controlled mostly by rich north-european corporations."
- Coal is the only non-metal provided in the list of materials extracted. Could it read "The extraction of the coal caves was operated on a low-technology basis"?
  - Added sulphur and barium. Metal mining was only part of the mining business in the region
- Does this apply to the 1600s or the 1900s? Both?
  - Explained
(many mines at the time mostly used pikes)
- What's a pike? Like a pole?
  - Pickaxe was the word, sorry
"They were not necessary to the operation, but were asked to be constructed by the owner of the company as a mark of prestige."
- But before, it's "The mines' owners asked the Italian engineer." Was there one owner, or many?
  - It was one company (Veille Montaigne), who of course had many shareholders. Fixing to "owner"
It's not quite clear if there were two /separate/ tunnels or one tunnel with a gallery. I'm assuming the latter, but I've tried not to change the wording. I think you'll want to say that it was one tunnel comprising a tunnel-part and a gallery-part. But at times reference is made to "upper tunnel", which confuses me even more.
- - There were two tunnels, one (Upper) for ore loading, and one (lower) for ore unloading. They were parallel and overlapping, 15 meters apart vertically, linked by reservoirs.
