Explanation for Revert[edit]

Hello. The edit by User:FDuffy which had removed all material about the role of this tithe in contemporary Jewish practice and had characterized belief in tithes as "Jewish folklore". I reverted on both bases.

Much of the material added is legitimate and can eventually be added back in in appropriately labeled sections with sources and POV identified. However, I don't have time right now to painstakingly do so, as I did with similar edits to Maaser Sheni. The person adding new edits is responsible for complying with WP:NPOV including the obligation not to remove existing well-sourced material in order to present solely ones own views as well as the obligation not to present a truth claim about a religious belief as fact. We can sort this out later. Best, --Shirahadasha 23:42, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree with User:Shirahadasha 100% here. User:FDuffy is too fast and loose with his edits and needs to pause and discuss before doing more damage. IZAK 07:15, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seems all academic sources refer to this in both Hebrew Bible and rabbinical context as "poor tithe" or "pauper's tithe." Although there are later religious texts using the Hebrew term in the English text generally cannot see many WP:RS to justify going against Wikipedia naming conventions here:

The title of an article should generally use the version of the name of the subject which is most common in the English language, as you would find it in reliable sources

again, you are quoting from outdated translations. (see Talk:Kohen#complete name change)--חודר לעומר (talk) 20:27, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello חודר לעומר
current refs are Muraoka 1999; Schwartz 2004; Instone-Brewer 2004; Talmud of Babylonia An American translation 1992. These seem typical of academic sources. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:40, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
