Untitled[edit]

This page is very complete. The contributors fully expound on the polygyny threshold model, including an accurate definition, a graphic depiction consistent with the model, and a research study demonstrating the polygyny threshold in the red-winged blackbird female population. This is actually one of the examples found in Davies, Krebs, and West’s Introduction to Behavioural Ecology (IBE). An additional note that may be of interest to people reading the page is that there was a polygyny cost to the females (Pribil qtd in Davies, Krebs, and West, 2012). The effect of polygyny made them less effective mothers when removed and taken to a more isolated population, proven by the fact the mothers from monogamous relationships had better adaptation to the new environment.
