Taxonomy: For all marine species, Project Gastropods uses the taxonomy in the online database WoRMS. When starting a new article, do not use sources of taxonomic information that predate the 2017 revision for all gastropod groups ("Revised Classification, Nomenclator and Typification of Gastropod and Monoplacophoran Families" by Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, Bernhard Hausdorf, Andrzej Kaim, Yasunori Kano, Alexander Nützel, Pavel Parkhaev, Michael Schrödl and Ellen E. Strong in Malacologia, 2017, 61(1–2): 1–526.) (can be dowloaded at Researchgate.net), substituting the previous classification of 2005 Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). A note[edit]

I have translated the text from the Dutch Wikipedia. There may be still some mistakes (language / grammar, etc), but that is up to native British people. The list of genera that I used here was the original English list. I did not check differences between this and that on the Dutch Wikipedia! Inconsistencies between these may be present. Presently I don't have time to do so. I have the feeling that generally these lists are compiled and/or expanded by people who are not very well informed. It is certainly not impossible that invalid names or taxa that should not considered to be a genus are included! For European data I strongly suggest to use the CLECOM lists as a basis for Wikipedia!

On the Dutch Wikipedia there exist nice templates for references but these don't seem to work here. Therefore, I made a simple list of references here--Tom Meijer 21:35, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Layout[edit]

In June 2012, User:Dysmorodrepanis put a copyedit tag on the article because the layout was so bad he said it made the article almost unusable. I have tried to fix that aspect of the article as best as I can now, and I removed the tag. If anyone else can improve the layout some more, please go ahead!
