Two articles[edit]

We have two articles, piston valve and piston valves. Should they be merged? Biscuittin (talk) 12:11, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, but I've renamed piston valves (this) to piston valve (steam engine), with a more appropriate disambiguation. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:28, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of navbox[edit]

Why was the navbox removed? It is relevant here because it has a whole section on valves. It also appears at Poppet valve, Sleeve valve and Slide valve. Biscuittin (talk) 10:00, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is with that navbox, more than anything. It describes itself as {{Piston engine configurations}} and although it does include "valves", the majority of it is to do with cylinder layouts used in internal combustion engines. These layouts have no relevance to steam engines. Piston valves have little relevance except to steam engines.
That navbox should be considered (maybe renamed) as "Internal combustion piston engine configurations". That's narrower, but it's still broad and still of great usefulness as a scope around which navigation is needed (no-one wanted to jump from Corliss valvegear to V16 engine anyway). It should focus on IC engine layouts, IC engine valvegear and related topics. It should only be used on IC engines.
Another navbox, of similar scope but for steam engines, can easily be created. Rather than V12s, this should include compound triples. Any navbox that includes piston and slide valves really ought to be offering the Stephenson and Walschaerts valvegear to drive them too. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:50, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Will you create this new navbox for steam engines please? Biscuittin (talk) 19:33, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the new navbox. I am exploring options for the red links. Biscuittin (talk) 22:24, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd rather you didn't. 8-(
I see you have done it for me. Biscuittin (talk) 10:11, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
