Extent[edit]

Are these communities limited to North America? Why aren't there any in Europe or Asia? --EncycloPetey 21:47, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know why not. Maybe there weren't any, such as due to all the wood being harvested. Maybe there they haven't been identified as being different from forest, or maybe they've been lost as most of the Pre-Columbian savannas of North America have been lost. If they're not burned every few years, in decades they become forest, and after two generations people forget they were there. Or they've been converted to farmland. If they exist they might be listed in Tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands. -- SEWilco (talk) 03:11, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are indeed pine barrens in Europe, see http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moskog . Most of Finland consists of pine barrens. However, the species composition is naturally somewhat different.62.20.108.18 (talk) 09:40, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
