Structure![edit]

I arrived here out of need, after not finding anywhere on WP a clear definition of "pier" with its 3 distinct meanings, which happily then I found at http://www.thefreedictionary.com/pier.

An encycl. needs a clear list of the 3, and then 3 separate explanations. As it is now, piers in buildings and bridge piers are on one single page, not ideal, but a disambiguation page has to reflect WP realities while helping to find one's way. Highlighting the 3 meanings (see terms written with bold letters) is the next best solution. Therefore, please do not remove the bold characters. Nor the separation by categories (construction, names, geography, abbrev.), they make perfect sense for an encyclopedia. Thanks.Arminden (talk) 08:44, 14 July 2015 (UTC)Arminden[reply]

Piers (name) and Piers (surname)[edit]

Don't know where else to take this; I added Piers Island ("NOT Pier Island" as its govt soruce says, indicating it was probably also known as that), which was named for a Henry Piers, an RN surgeon; there's also Piers Anthony and I think there are other notables with Piers as a first name, too (usually Dutch etc). In lieu of any other page for "Piers" now should they maybe be here in a "See also" section where Piers Island could also be moved?Skookum1 (talk) 05:17, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
