Off-road racing[edit]

I started this article without considering off-road racing. Anyone is free of adding that content here. Good luck! --NaBUru38 (talk) 17:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

what about racing REAL pickup trucks?[edit]

We have a short oval track over in the next town which sometimes features racing by real cars, rather than race-only "Stock cars". By which I mean old Detroit iron with V8 motors and RWD, swapping paint on the track; it's a real racing series. Every race it seems like there is one or two pickups similarly modified with rollcages, out on the track. I'm not sure why they bother, since they are certainly NOT similar to the cars, other than being body-on-frame, RWD, and V8 powered. They usually manage to keep within the last quarter or so of the pack, in spite of having far worse weight distribution and almost no traction on the rear wheels. Point is that this describes only stock cars with "pickup" bodies on them (and I personally laugh bitterly every time I hear someone call NASCAR, etc, "stock car" racing. What a joke). There are people who race REAL pickup trucks, on pavement and off.

Also ought to ask why there is no mention of the consequences of the pickup-shaped body, how they have a serious effect on the aerodynamics of the vehicle, and make stock-car "pickups" far more dangerous to driver and slower than the "cars", even though they are mechanically almost identical. It's always a bit humorous when you find an article on one part of something, say NASCAR "pickup racing", which gives detailed information on the subject, and also links to the "main" page on the topic, which is basically just a stub with no real info on it. Why does this page need to exist when the "sub" page is so much more detailed and full of information? One would think that the MAIN page ought to have most of the info, and the sub-page on the specific topic of NASCAR pickup-racing ought to only contain info that is relevant only to that series. I keep seeing that again and again, along with other things that make me cringe even worse. Absolutely doomed, for sure..45Colt 00:38, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Many many years ago there was a one-make series in the UK using the South African-built Ford Sierra-based pickup. The one-word summary: “sideways”. Mr Larrington (talk) 01:47, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
