Name

One topic that is conspicuously absent is an explanation for why someone would name their kid "Phillip Phillips." What drove his boring, obviously uncreative parents to christen their child with this lazy, redundant name? This needs to be fleshed out in more detail. --71.13.160.210 (talk) 15:00, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

How parents chose to name their children is none of our business. Hzh (talk) 16:18, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
Of course, it is our business that "he suffered from a congenital kidney condition that produces stones so large he cannot pass them."--98.226.58.24 (talk) 20:44, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Genre?

I've seen the genre on his page change several times from country to folk to rock. Does anyone know what genre he's either said he performs in or what genre he's marketed as? Personally I would say that he sounds most closely to folk-rock or alt-country. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.210.48.167 (talk) 19:15, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Phillips described himself as being of "jazz, rock alternative sound". He was given "Home" which I would describe as folk rock (presumably his label wants to move him to this genre which is currently popular), and because of the success of the song, his first album also included songs similar to "Home". So you can put in a number of genres ranging from folk rock to jazz rock and alt rock. I wouldn't put him in alt-country. Hzh (talk) 23:55, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Original artist

I see that the original artist is listed as Greg Holden. Although it is explained in the footnote that he had performed it before, I'm not sure if it is correct to list him as the original artist. I am inclined to think that the first official recording should be considered the original artist, since any songs can be performed by any number of people (people who may be unknown, or the writer or a session artist may record demos) before the songs are offered to better-known singers and officially recorded and released. I'm interested to hear what other people think about this. Hzh (talk) 20:43, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Middle name

How sure are people that LaDon is Phillip Phillips middle name? The problem with the link given is that it is not a reliable news source, and that site could very well have copied that middle name from this wiki page (wiki is often the source of many unreliable information that gets repeated all over the web). Phillip himself did not reveal his middle name in this and other interviews. Hzh (talk) 14:40, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Well check out footnote number 6, which is this link [1]. It's his high school page. Seems reliable enough. I was not the one who added it originally. I noticed someone kept removing it without any explanation. Tinton5 (talk) 23:29, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Excellent. The issue is brought up only because Phillip insisted on not revealing his middle name in a few interviews. I'll adjust the reference. Hzh (talk) 23:37, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Italicized title?

Why is the title of this article italicized? Names of people aren't italicized. Who did this? And where is the template that has caused this in the article? I can't find it. Nightscream (talk) 03:04, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Caused by the American Idol navbox template I think, because it affects all those listed in the template. Hzh (talk) 09:09, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Fixed now. Hzh (talk) 09:20, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Updated info

We were contacted via OTRS to point out this story about the album going platinum. Not sure if it's already noted somewhere, but I figured I'd give involved editors a heads up. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 23:07, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
