He has gotten pre-death coverage in general about what its like to crab fish. I'm surprised that he didn't already have his own article. He's definitely notable enough for it. He's one of the two leads on Deadliest Catch. Sig Hansen, the other of the two, has his own article. Grundle2600 (talk) 22:36, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just to add my 2 cents, Harris has co-starred in an internationally broadcast television series for the better part of 6 years. His death received international coverage. Other captains/costars on the series such a Sig Hansen rate their own articles. Personally I think all the ongoing captains satisfy notability to have their own articles, either in terms of TV performers (and they are, to a degree, performers - there's even a Deadliest Catch fan convention) or in terms of their prominence in their particular industry. There are also books dedicated to Deadliest Catch that discuss Harris and the others. As far as I'm concerned there are more than enough Wikipedia notability guidelines satisfied to give Harris an article. 68.146.81.123 (talk) 01:31, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article titled "The Five Things We'll Miss Most About Captain Phil" with the quote was just linked to from the Yahoo! News homepage. That makes the quote notable. How is this "vandalism"?[edit]

I added this to the "Personal life" section of the article:

Harris was known for his sense of humor. He claimed that he could find crabs by smelling their farts. He also once said, "You ain't a man till you pull a tooth out with a pair of pliers."[1]

I then received this message on my talk page:

I remember him saying that too, so i'll back you up dude. the site monitors saw farts and said it must be vandalism. i dont remember what episode, but i do remember him saying that, and one of the crew members had a cavity and was bothering him so phil told him to just pull it out and handed him some pliers. classic phil moment and saying. I notice on the page for David Letterman they are using a YouTube video of an episode of The Tonight Show as source for on air statements by Johnny Carson (Ref #41: "YouTube". Retired Johnny Carson makes rare (last) TV appearance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvaUa559gMw. Retrieved July 6, 2009.) Assuming that video of Capt Phil saying these, or other things, can be found online, and that the info can be added in a meaningful paragraph and not just stuck in like trivia, would anyone object? I wrote sth wrong[edit]

sorry but when the doctor called josh harris (phil's son), he told him that his father had had another stroke and i had no reason not to guess that's right. but from this article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FV_Cornelia_Marie) i know that it was a pulmonary embolism that killed him. i hope he rests in peace.78.43.29.38 (talk) 19:40, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicting Sources on Phil Harris Birthdate[edit]

I have noticed that this article contains conflicting sources regarding Harris's birthdate. A New York Times article [2] relating to his death added to the References section last month by User:Dawnseeker2000 lists Harris's birthdate as Decembember 21, 1956, the date currently listed in the article, but the website maintained by the Cornelia Marie’s current owners [3] which is listed under both the article's References and External links sections lists Harris's birthdate as December 19, 1956. Furthermore, although it may not qualify as a reliable source by itself, Harris's profile on the Internet Movie Database website [4] which is listed under the External links section, also lists his birthdate as December 19, 1956. Any assistance from my fellow Wikipedians in determining which date is correct, or how it should be listed in the article would be most appreciated. --TommyBoy (talk) 04:57, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know that I can be of much help here, but I was thinking maybe there would be a newspaper source that could help out. Something from the Seattle area (Bothell is near there). I have a Highbeam account and looked there, but no luck. I then searched for book sources on Google and came across a book that's been put together by Phil's sons. It may be released in the spring. Books are a great source & I've got a backlog to read (for articles I'm working on) so maybe someone should get a copy of the book and (hopefully) settle this uncertainty. Would be great if what we're looking for is in there.
