cabriolet[edit]

The V6 cabriolet production is a big mystery here, we owned an late '80 504 cabriolet in 1989, the plastic body color painted bumper US version, I need to update the Cabriolet content here, it was sold in the US and some EU dealers, under the pininfarina batched Peugeot cars, not as 504 model. The V6 engine was phased out of the Cabriolet in 1977, in 1983 production stopped. The Peugeot 504 Monte Carlo Cabriolet was their last model, the 2-litre injection engine got a five-speed gearbox, the model we owned was not the V6 model ? 2A02:A452:7D4C:1:ECB2:CFBC:1998:E3B3 (talk) 22:38, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

this section does not contain anything really which is specific to 1971. Most of the info here could best go in the following paragraph.

I can't find any evidence that the 504 remains available in kenya.

technical section === disk brakes and independant rear suspension =[edit]

"live axe": the 504 was launched with 4 independent suspensions and 4 disk brakes for the sedan (Peugeot was heavyly criticized for having used a live axle in the 404), and live axle with rear drum brakes for the SW and pick-up. The slowest variants of the sedan (1.8 litre or diesel) where then downgraded to live axle and rear drum brakes(low-cost 504s) but it has never been used in the coupé, the convertible or the fuel-injected sedan: those always kept the 4 independent suspensions and the 4 disk brakes too.212.234.248.226 (talk) 15:18, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Number of examples left[edit]

Is it beneficial to list the number of examples left in any particular country? Perhaps if there was a notable UK owners club, but I'm struggling with the necessity for including numbers existing for the UK only in this article as it stands without anything in terms of notability of the existing cars to support it (maybe if Ahmedinajad's car was one of them?). It's also unclear whether the number quoted on MSN includes the truck, which was common long after the car. Market Segment[edit]

A recent mobile editor changed the market segment in the infobox from D to E. I changed it back for the following reasons, but please feel free to discuss:

  • In it's home market, this car was designed to appeal to a wide proportion of the market, not a profitable niche.
  • It wasn't equipped to the same level as the Renault_20/30, Citroën_CX, or the concurrent Peugeot_604, which would better fit the description of entry-level executive cars. The BMW E12 (current equivalent is used as an example in the E-segment article) was compared with the 604 and Jaguar XJ6 by Motor in 1978 (see the E12 article), so again, the 504 was regarded at the time as being in a different market segment from the E segment examples.
  • It is not a similar car to compact luxury cars of the time, such as the Triumph Dolomite or BMW 02 Series.
  • The V6 engine was only used in the 504 coupé, not in the saloon versions.
  • A pick-up truck version was made, underlying the intention of wide appeal, i.e., the intention was not to profit from a narrow sector at the top end of the market.

I do agree on the segment changes, but on launch its positions was higher rated then the segment of owners driving it.
