Biography sources

Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows of any good, reliable sources which I can use to add more information to this article. Specifically, I would like to find something regarding how Peter Hujar's work was influenced by the AIDS epidemic, and also how his work influenced other artists during and after the AIDS epidemic. I have made small edits to the Early Life and Death sections of the article. Let me know if there are any inconsisitencies or problems with the edits. I am going to comment on the five elements the best Wiki articles have. Under each element, I will discuss what I think is good and what could be changed (given that the sources needed to make such changes are available).

1. A lead section that is easy to understand The lead section is short and sweet. I know you did not make any edits to this, but perhaps this could be expanded with what inspires the artist. It would also be nice to know why he does his portraits in black and white instead of color. An introduction to the rest of the page would be nice to readers to gain more depth on the artist.

2. A clear structure Overall the article follows a chronological order. I see on the talk page that you mentioned possibly adding a "gay rights/AIDS" section. This would be nice to read and would add more detail of the article. The early life has a good amount of detail; it is simple and to the point.

3. Balanced coverage The different sections in the article has varying amounts of information. For example, the death section has barely any information when compared to his early and artistic life sections. If there are any sections that need some more detail, I would say it is the Introduction and the Death sections.

4. Neutral content All of the content on the article is neutral and there is no usage of words that stray from the "encyclopedic" nature of the article. There is no use of emotional verbiage which is good. The article gets straight to the point and sticks to the facts.

5. Reliable sources I checked out the links and they all work. The ones I clicked on appeared to come from non-biased sources that appear to be peer-reviewed. Nice!

Article Evaluation

Are there viewpoints that are over-represented, or underrepresented?

The article gives a lot of topics and facts about the life of Peter Hujar. Like a burger without its meat, the article did not provide a lot of details for the topics it brought up. Each were either briefly talked about and then moved onto another topic or just brought up and never talked about again. Overall the article is a bunch of facts with not much detail or specifics. Hi Ivan,

Peter Hujar was a very talented photographer especially because the majority of his photographs are depicted in black and white. I like how the article has a lot of information on his early childhood and his Ukrainian heritage. The article is set up to show the most important information is given and the article is set up so that every reader is able to understand the topic. I like your feedback of Hujar's style, it added some positive insight because he doesn't have a lot of information and most of the information is on his childhood and how difficult it was, as well as, his dying experience. It seems that because a lot of his photographs were focused on the Aids epidemic, he showed how people were dying without their dignity. They were suffering and he gave them a voice with his photographs. The citations are all reliable. My artist is Slava Mogutin and he is also a talented photographer. I think because he is from Russia and did not live in the U.S. during the Aids epidemic his photos depict rebellion and pride in being gay, he is very proud and fights for his right to be who he wants to be. I believe Peter Hujar and Slava Mogutin have some things in common due to the fact that they were both showing pride in what they do, but also they use photographs to inform the world on the important issues that are happening in their lives.

The article on Peter Hujar is a very informative piece that includes interesting facts on his timeline from his early life to his artistic career. It speaks on the history of his education when he attended the School of Industrial Art, which helped launch his career as an artist. The article includes great sources from reliable references which are key to composing an effective article. The use of information from articles like "Peter Hujar: the photographer who defined downtown New York" and "The Bohemian Rhapsody of Peter Hujar" are great reliable components to this article. Although there were only a handful of slight grammatical errors, there isn't too many corrections that needed to be made. The structure is well put, the order starts from life, death, to legacy and the information on his lovers like Paul The and David Wojnarowicz just makes the article more exciting to read. As for your article evaluation, I do agree with the amount of content provided. With the topics of this article, there can be more content to build on with the life that Peter Hujar had. His early life had good details provided but the legacy portion didn't come off as effective and could use more details on his success.

Although the organized table of contents seems to be filled with a lot of information on Hujar, each section can be edited to add more details and elaboration. For example, for the exhibitions section, did the artist really only have two exhibitions from his entire career, even after his passing? Maybe more information can be added from different resources.
