Romanian spelling[edit]

Is the use of â in the Communist version correct? Wasn't it almost always substituted by î? The text is not attributed neither here nor in the Romanian Wikipedia. --Error (talk) 20:14, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Socialist Republic of Romania says the anthem became official in 1975 and â returned to the Romanian alphabet in 1964. I'll assume that the official version of the lyrics had Stăpîn and românesc.

Judging from what is said at Romanian alphabet#Î versus Â, â was only used for România (and other related words like român and românesc) and î for everything else between 1965 and 1993. So yes, it would be România and stăpîn. Super Ψ Dro 09:09, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adopted as anthem[edit]

Aside from the mention in Petru Bălan's work cited in the sources (which I admit I didn't read thoroughly as I don't read Romanian), I don't see any source that this was used as the anthem (and I don't even see any source in Petru Bălan's work, it's stated as such, and here his claim is repeated as such). The biggest evidence I can find that this was never the anthem was that it was never presented as such, I could not find in any anthem books of the time nor any recordings.

The biggest tip that it wasn't the anthem was that Nadia Comaneci's famous "10" performance at the Montreal Olympics was right in the middle of when this anthem was purportedly in use, 1976! However, the anthem played for her medal ceremony was Te slăvim, Românie, the one in use since 1953 (and by the way, the anthem I always saw presented as the Romanian anthem in anthem books and recordings of that time). You would think, if Ceaușescu himself was so keen on having this as the Romanian anthem, then the Olympics, with such stars as Comaneci, among others, guaranteed to win his nation a gold, he would definitely have made sure that Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire would have been played at the medal ceremony to show it off alongside his talented athletes, but it wasn't.

My feeling is that Ceaușescu proposed this as the anthem but it wasn't adopted. (It may have even been used as the anthem of the PCR for a time, but not the nation itself.

I think more work is needed to prove that this was the anthem in use at the time, because there's more evidence against it than for it. Canuckguy (talk) 03:18, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
