Additional Note[edit]

In the section "notes", I added a brief bit of information about Clancy's portrayl of the Provisional IRA that I thought was important - he portrays the PIRA as Marxist, which they are not in real life (socialist, yes, but Marixst, no). I thought that might be relevent, so I added some info. Please do not delete that section without talking to me about it here first.

The PIRA are a Marxist organisation and adhere to Communist principles - hence Sinn Fein sit with and vote with the Communist Bloc in the European Parliment —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.32.3.2 (talk) 12:21, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this was meant to help readers? But even me, an "informed" Clancy fan, can't see the logic behind... FloK 13:56, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It's very confusing. I understand the timeline very well and still think it needs to be simplified. —Joseph/N328KF (Talk) 16:18, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As you say it makes sense, I suspect I'm not that informed as I thought I was... :( I thought it was meant something the way below. FloK 23:25, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree although I think the result should be a blend of the information above. I will change the main page to suit. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 10:35, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:TomClancy-PatriotGames.jpg[edit]

Image:TomClancy-PatriotGames.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Novel plot and the Royal Family[edit]

If you check the script, Ryan saves Lord and Lady Holmes and their baby...NOT the Prince and Princess of Wales. Someone keeps changing the Wiki to list them as being the Prince and Princess of Wales. Can you prevent this person from changing the info to an incorrect entry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Conchchowder0 (talkcontribs)

Do bear in mind when editing this article is that it is about the "Novel", not primarily the film. There is an item in the article about the difference between the plot of the two. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 10:14, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
MY MOST HUMBLE APOLOGIES TO ALL. I STAND CORRECTED AND FEEL LIKE A TOTAL BUFFOON. I WAS REFERENCING THE MOVIE (AS SHOWN IN MY ERROR) AND NOT THE NOVEL. YES, I'M SHOUTING BECAUSE I FEEL SO STUPID! SORRY AGAIN! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Conchchowder0 (talkcontribs) - 16 August 2007
The contents of this article seem to put forward the idea that the Prince and Princess in the novel are, in fact, Prince Charles and Princess Diana. While there are similarities, Clancy never refers to these characters by name. Nor does he refer to the Queen or her consort by name. The President in the next novel (in the chronology of Clancy's "Ryanverse"), The Hunt for Red October, is clearly not supposed to be Ronald Reagan. I don't think it is appropriate to believe that the Prince and Princess in Patriot Games are neccesarily Charles and Diana.Blindeman75 (talk) 13:52, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline Discrepency[edit]

I have recently decided to reread some of the books in the series in their 'chronological' order, so I have been trying to pay attention to dates and events. I am about 2/3 way through Patriot Games (page 331, chapter 18, paperback version of the original hardcover) and I see one paragraph where Bill Shaw is contemplating the history of terrorism in the U.S. and it says, "A few fringe groups occasionally managed to set off a bomb somewhere, .... From a high of fifty-one terrorist incidents in 1982, the number had been slashed to seven in 1985. The Bureau had managed to run down many of these amateurish groups, preventing more than twenty incidents the previous year, with good intelligence followed by quick action." What can be made of this? Loonybin0 19:25, 26 July 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loonybin0 (talkcontribs)

That is to say, there seems to be a conflict here since the novel took place around winter 1981- summer 1982 or so I gathered from the chronology section of the Jack Ryan/Ryanverse page (Jack Ryan is 31 at the beginning of the novel, thus Bill Shaw could not know terrorism statistics 3 - 4 years ahead of time). I could also see that maybe this could actually be Clancy speaking, but I just always assumed that these extended monologue paragraphs were associated with the character of importance in that section.
