Leukemia?[edit]

As it kills immune cells, does this have potential as a theraputic agent against leukemia? If it kills the cancerous cells as well as healthy ones, it should work. 81.98.38.223 (talk) 17:37, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PVL-MRSA[edit]

Are these the same? I found a news article about PVL-MRSA and was going to start up an article on it, but I found this and wasn't sure if they were the same, or different strains, or related by name only, or who knows what else.StvnLunsford 19:26, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, they're the same thing. The Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a toxic factor, produced by a phage (i.e, a virus that infects bacteria.) It is most prominently found in Staphylococcus aureus (SA). If the SA is Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), then it is particularly bad news, because you can't clear it up with antibiotics. (Most MSRA are also resistant to most of the other common, safe antibiotics.) David.Throop 20:26, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, okay. I see you got it up there now. Thanks for clearing that up. If you want a citation for this, go to

I wouldn't call them the same thing. This page is about PVL which is a protein. PVL-MRSA would be referring to MRSA bacteria that are expressing the genes that code for PVL. Curtbash (talk) 11:24, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Other Vectors[edit]

The Staphylococcus page lists a half dozen other species that can cause human infection. Anybody know—Does PVL ever show up in them? David.Throop (talk) 00:17, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
