Untitled[edit]

I just dropped here to note that I removed the part about Konqueror having an advanced multi-line form editing feature, because the feature in konqueror referenced is nothing like OmniWeb's - it simply adds some advanced editing capabilities to textareas, such as tab characters and spell checking. it does not allow you to do full window text editing.

I tried to rephrase the sentence to be accurate, but then it either is too complicated, or is an obvious Konqueror plug (which I kind of have the feeling is what it was in the first place - not that I have anything against Konqueror - its my default browser). -- Guss

POV[edit]

This page seems a bit point of view. I'm sure it's a kick ass browser, but I don't think it's up to Wikipedia to show all the great features and to quote arstechnica on how great this browser is. Make NPOV please! Shandolad 08:39, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pop-Up blocking?[edit]

Was this really first sawn on OmniWeb? There’s no information when exactly OmniWeb came out with Pop-Up blocking. This Opera Wiki site says different. It claims that Opera was first in 2000. Because there’s no information when it was integrated into OmniWeb, I’ll put a “citation needed” at the end of this sentence. 84.60.128.165 19:18, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As the first references to Pop-up blocking functionality in Omniweb appear in the context of version 4, there is no doubt that the competitors were actually ahead of it. Therefore, I'll remove that redundant statement. Grey 23:33, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:OmniWeb Icon.png[edit]

Image:OmniWeb Icon.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:33, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Release date incorrect?[edit]

According to this mail archive, OmniWeb was released on March 3, 1994 (which is just over a year before the release date in this article). I contacted OmniGroup to confirm the date, and they sent me this link as an independent reference.

Does anyone have a source for the 1995 release date in the article? --Abhi Beckert 03:06, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nssdc_news/march95/03_j_mathews_0395.html has a january 1995 date. the 1994 date looks like a beta which they were actively trying to limit the distribution of. —Preceding unsigned comment added by A plague of rainbows (talkcontribs) 20:27, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The nasa article does not refer to the introduction of Omnigroup's Omniweb browser. There are a lot of references to Omniweb in Nextstep newsgroups from 1994. Here is one from April 1994: http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.next.software/browse_thread/thread/a44725cd66c2fb77/4b4d507a1830adf6?q=comp.sys.next.software+omniweb

Search for "comp.sys.next.systems omniweb" in google groups to find several more. Clearly Omnigroup's claim of March 1994 is correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.54.178.40 (talk) 01:12, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discontinued?[edit]

Tim@ marked OmniWeb discontinued on 3 Dec. 2015 in “Comparison of web browsers”. Is he wrong or has no one gotten around to updating OmniWeb’s article page?--104.178.189.70 (talk) 02:36, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
