Propose merge to Oil Creek Railroad[edit]

I'm betting this topic is not notable enough for a standalone article, but content could be merged to Oil Creek Railroad. ––FormalDude talk 03:24, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not exactly but should be recognized as to how far progress that I made with helping develop my first major Wikipedia article; I was hoping to add additional information beforehand but if others deem it necessary to merge then my level of research is ignored! I will also be posting a other talk subject on other contributors that helped spark my interest in the Pennsylvania Petroleum Railroad. Largo96 (talk) 03:54, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(Saw this listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Article alerts) Most railroads are inherently notable. However, as the Pennsylvania Petroleum Railroad never actually existed besides on paper, such blanket protection from merging/redirecting/deletion does not apply (and even then, many minor railroads are found within the pages of related companies, because there's not enough to justify a distinct article). A merge does not mean your research is "ignored", you can incorporate it at Oil Creek Railroad (though I don't see any cited sources so this is arguably original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia). At present, Pennsylvania Petroleum Railroad does not cite ANY sources, and it's a wonder it hasn't been taken to AfD or redirected already. Sources are not optional for mainspace articles; one solution may be to move Pennsylvania Petroleum Article to draftspace until it is in a state it can survive on its own. But I don't think enough reliable sources exist to meet GNG, so this should just be redirected to Oil Creek Railroad. To be brutally honest, you need more experience editing before creating articles. Making new articles is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia, and with only 14 edits to article space so far, you really need to learn more about how Wikipedia works before making more articles. Especially see WP:Citing sources. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 23:34, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've had a partly-finished article on the Pennsylvania Petroleum Railroad sitting in my sandbox since 2020. I've now finished that and expanded the article. It is definitely a worthy topic in its own right, and this is not a good merge target. Choess (talk) 07:34, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I came to a similar conclusion myself recently; I came to the Pennsylvania Petroleum Railroad article to AfD it, but did a before search and found enough sources to justify an article. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 18:42, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
