Paper currency[edit]

It's not correct that the first paper currency issued by the U.S. was in 1917. The treasury issued silver certificates and other forms of paper currency long before that. (see writer's source for note 2) The writer probably means that the first federal reserve notes were issued in 1917. Silver certificates and federal reserve notes were issued concurrently in smaller denominations until no earlier than 1960 -- they appeared identical in design. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.183.20.253 (talk) 21:00, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
