"Pocket gopher"[edit]

Why is it a "pocket gopher"? Is this a handy-sized gopher for folks on the go? Is it a marsupial? Tony OU812 (talk) 00:29, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It has external, fur-lined pouches or "pockets" laterally adjacent to each side of its mouth. It uses them to store food while foraging. It's a rodent, not a marsupial. -- if you're still wondering! When I have the chance I'll cite that and add it to the stub. Abanibble (talk) 22:49, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
