Revert?[edit]

The word Noob or better said name, originates from 1995 Mortal Kombat 3 character NOOB SAIBOT, created by Boon Tobias wich is a palindrome. The character Noob Saibot could repeatedly spam bombs and in later games spam shadows A NOOB is one who repeatedly does the same thing to win, (cheap strategy player) also used for campers, ironicaly the newbs to video gaming confuse Noob With newb, wich is not the same word at all, those who where born in the 80's know that word all to well. Even the dictionary has it wrong — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lord of the slaves (talkcontribs) 14:31, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can I suggest we revert to the edit by Shardakar? I don't find this definition really helpful, and the redirect to "newbie" would be better. I was loathe to revert changes made by a registered user without a second, however. Danahuff 20:29, 5 April 2007 (UTC)\[reply]

Yes this page should probably redirect to newbie.--Topcount345 16:11, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly a noob is not a newbie newbies are new but a noob is a person who have had experience in what ever field but still have not learned all the basics. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.28.34.240 (talk) 23:11, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As the word newbie and noob are considered the same in many people's eyes, people tend to have many different personal beliefs of what the words really mean.

Once the gaming took a competitive turn in form of rankings, people created the concept of being a noob.

In the early 90's where the online gaming were born (See Online_game), the definition of noob were created. As the definition of noob is considered a person who just doesn't care, who progress slow or rarely, he is ignorant of becoming better, A person who, regardless of experience, lacks the skill to be competitive in a any game; Who wants everything to come easy instead of working to achieve something such as improving your way of play, and if they do try and yet fail at becoming better, they're very much likely a noob.

Therefore, noobs are seen as people who's rather stupid, incompetent and dumb players who pretty much has no clue of their mistakes and what they're doing wrong, they rather instead just play the game and hope for the best.

If someone would basicly "Pwn" this sort of person, - (See Pwn: Pwn), the person would become defensive and probably call the other person who's winning either a hacker/cheater or even a noob aswell.

Therefore he who uses the word noob against another person whilst losing are pretty much considered noobs themselves or in a denial state because someone is better. If a professional player calls someone a noob whilst winning; even if the person he's facing is good, he's just doing it for insulting and being rude towards the losing player and making him feel bad, causing his self-confidence to lack and the professional person would feel better about himself for achieving something better than the losing person has. This behaviour is considered similarly to the internet slang called "Trolling". See Internet slang Troll: Troll_(Internet).

A newbie on the other hand is a person who's completely new to a game, area, rang, or thing and has the possibility to either become a professional or a noob.

A noob can be spelt in many ways within the leet language ("1337" See Leet.) where you use numbers and letters to express yourself with. (n00b, noub, nub, nuub, n0ub, nab, nap, etc).
