Inclusion of specific search engines

I don't think any search-engine external links are appropriate here (or at least none that I've seen here appear to be):

• The article is about servers, not clients or client-services sites. (on further reading, not suer this applies well)
• The links seem to be cherry-picked...not complete but also passing arbitrary editorial judgement (POV and undue-weight issues) for certain search sites.
• There is a whole list of search engines page that seems like an appropriate place to list notable search engines for USENET if any such things exist (they have clear criteria for inclusion and seem able to be comprehensive within them).
• We link to DMOZ already (WP:EL, WP is not a directory of extlinks).

Seems like it's going slightly off-topic for the page here, but it's not that far off. I won't object if others like it and/or it's a way to resolve the content dispute we seem to be having. DMacks 03:58, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Opening words

"A news server is a set of computer software...." This statement seems excessively vague to me. I've heard of programs, applications, even services, but never "sets" describing units of software. What, exactly is a "set of computer software", and can we replace the phrase with a more familiar one? Unfree (talk) 04:10, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Merger proposal

I propose to merge news server operation to news server. Both articles are very similar and there is little differentiation between a news server and the operation of a news server. Neither part (similar, little-differentiation) appears to have any factual basis. To open the discussion, it would help if you provided something like a reliable source to support your argument TEDickey (talk) 18:46, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

I've created a draft of the merge in my sandbox and have added sources to the page.
