This article is on the whole quite high-quality but it assumes an audience with a pre-working understanding. Not to disparage the MENA region, the interests of Western audiences, or the curriculums of western schools and universities—but I don't see that being the case.

The article needs a lot of work and rework. It is written like an essay rather than as an enclyclopedia article. As NPP I marked it as reviewed because it meets wp:notability which (rather than article quality) is the main question.
