I think the references to Hecate are unfounded and unrelated, except perhaps in modern pagan circles. There is no evidence to support worship of Hecate at this festival in any of the sources. Conal (talk) 20:19, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

copy-edit[edit]

Multiple issues to be resolved, so I'm starting on it as of signature date-stamp. And starting from scratch. Haploidavey (talk) 22:41, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Offerings to Diana?[edit]

What is the source for this part: "small written messages on ribbons, tied to the altar or to trees"? I have not been able to find any reliable sources for this statement. Timusuke (talk) 01:14, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Curious about this myself. Sounds like an idea from more modern pagan practice. And I'm not sure writing on ribbons would have been as easy for the Romans as scribbling something with a ballpoint. Sewing messages on ribbons, maybe? Either way, I still don't see any citations offered so almost exactly four years on, I'm going to remove the statement. - Trillioris (talk) 10:16, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is Ovid the oldest reference to this Festival?[edit]

Because I'm wondering if Augustus might have invented this like he invented September 23rd (his own Birthday) as Apollo's Holiday?--JaredMithrandir (talk) 10:00, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
