Huh?[edit]

I've added the kanji for her name and hiragana reading... and the article has gone all... funky. Can anyone tell was is wrong with the wikicode here:

Nishi-Kawa or Nishikawa?[edit]

This article uses both forms of her Casualty roles' family name. Which should we use? While Nishikawa seems to be a more standard rendering, following the more typical transliteration method rules, the BBC seems to favour Nishi-Kawa.[1] We should probably stick to that. --GracieLizzie 23:14, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If we were to strictly go by the romanized standards Japan encourages, it should be Nishikawa. Nishi-Kawa only makes sense as a way to illustrate where the character splits i.e. as a technical specification of the written language. It's almost like writing a sentence with the international pronunciation symbols; technically not incorrect, but extremely awkward and out-of-place. Jgrey 01:17, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pronounciation[edit]

The way "Naoko" is pronounced varies in the Torchwood commentaries, involving most of ther cast prnouncing it as NOW-KO, whereas John Barrowman pronounces it as NAY-O-KO. I was just wondering which is her preferred pronounciation. Leo (talk) 03:18, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the former. That's closer to how the Japanese would say it, but also there's a video diary by John Barrowman on the Torchwood box set where he shoves the camera in her face and they speak Japanese. Well, John can say 'excuse me' and 'thank you', anyway. She says 'I'm Naoko' in Japanese, equivalent to the former pronunciation. Jsteph (talk) 03:18, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace?[edit]

An anonymous editor recently changed Mori's birthplace from Nagoya to "osaka". Another anon corrected the capitalization. Neither Nagoya nor Osaka is referenced. Does anyone know for certain which is correct? —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 03:46, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

date of birth[edit]

The English page gives "1975", the Japanese page gives "1971". I have no evidence either way, but she looked a lot older than seventeen when she appeared in the first series of Absolutely Fabulous in 1992. I know actresses mess their ages around, and Japanese women often look young for their age to people who grew up in the West, but can we get an answer on this/ By the way, the pronunciation would best be NOW-KO, but make sure you pronounce the KO as if it's the word "call" and leave the "-ll" part off. 91.111.77.171 (talk) 14:04, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Correct Birthday and Nationality[edit]

Her Birthday and Nationality is incorrect. Naoko's real birthday in November 29, and her Nationality is Japanese. This can be verified by a Japanese article she wrote herself for Global Casting a number of years ago - which is already linked/referred to/archived as #2 in the References section of her article (http://web.archive.org/web/20061017153425/http://www.g-casting.com/voice/naokomori.html)

Although the article is in Japanese, if you scroll down to the end of the article, you can clearly see her birthday in November 29, and that she was born in Aichi prefecture where Nagoya is.

Though they are not all online, there are numerous other articles and interviews of Naoko Mori that states her birthday as Nov 29, and her being a Japanese National. I also have many Japanese articles/interviews from over the years that confirms these facts too. If further verification is needed, I could scan/send this to Wikipedia as evidence.

There has never been any evidence that she is British. All her interviews and articles clearly state she is Japanese, and every Japanese article states she was born in Nagoya, Aichi, and she has never changed her nationality. There has also never been any evidence that her birthday is Nov 19.

I have tried to correct this by editing her article several times recently - but this has been reverted back to November 19 / British every time. I ask you to please revert my edits - and correct her Nationality to Japanese, and correct her birthday to November 29. Thank you

As per my message above, her nationality is stated as Japanese in several interviews that are already cited, and listed in the References section of her article:

'Japanese born Naoko Mori' in Interview with Torchwood star Naoko Mori (Reference #9) Gordon, Carole (2007-01-01). "Interview with Torchwood star Naoko Mori". Eclipse Magazine.

She even clearly says "I'm Japanese" herself on 'The Wright Stuff' interview (Reference #3) "The Wright Stuff - Naoko Mori and the papers" YouTube video

Again, both her nationality and birthday can clearly be seen at the end of the article referenced as #2 - which she wrote herself.

There are many more articles/interviews in Japanese newspapers etc showing her birthday as November 29, and her Nationality as Japanese - but I simply do not have the time to list all of these.

I hope the above suffices in proving to you that these are true, correct - and neutral - and that you will please now edit these accordingly.

Then add Japanese if it's clear? But I would suggest you add something like "Japanese actress who has lived in the UK since she was X-Y years of age"...that's important to her notability - she works in the UK, is notable in the UK, lives in the UK. This discussion is just silly
(A) If there is a factual error, WE want to correct it and the COI editor does not even have to provide sources
(B) When it comes to the birth-date, basically any source will do and we do accept sources that are not in English
(C) The current birthdate is not cited anyway
(D) There is no significant COI issue related to a birth-date.
(E) Citation templates are preferred, but bare URLs are just fine and better than having an error
