UK or US English spellings?

I'm sure this has been discussed on many other disc. boards, but how does one determine whether one is to use the UK spelling of a word, or the US spelling, i.e. "favourite" as opposed to "favorite?"---FoodRiot

It all depends on the subject being covered. In this case, My Morning Jacket are Americans and so the American English spellings should be used. Sadly. Dancarney 14:22, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Coors Aspen Edge Triva

Without any citation, I wonder whether the following piece of Trivia should be removed from MMJ's listing:

"The song "Mahgeetah" appeared in a beer commercial in 2005. They had initially sold the rights to the song to Coors under the impression that it would be used for a Coors Light advertisement. Upon finding that the commercial had been released supporting the new Coors Aspen Edge, they donated every cent of the proceeds to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and swore to never do another commercial."

I can't find anything online to support this. Can anyone else? It seems like a pretty random thing, especially since it's puzzling--why would the band be ok with a Coors Light commercial but balk at Aspen Edge? And why donate to a diabetes foundation?

2) The band was informed that it would be a Coors ad and did not know of its use for Aspen Edge so they felt they were duped, giving the impression they were supporting a product they were unfamiliar with which is very disingenuous. What is puzzling about not liking that?

3) In the band's early years they did several benefit shows for juvenile diabetes research because one of the band members has a close relative with the disease, so there is nothing out of character there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.225.19.133 (talk) 05:13, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

I've just finished a tidy up of this part of the MMJ infobox. Before anyone changes anything, please read the following, which is taken directly from Template:Infobox musical artist...

This field is for professional relationships with other musicians or bands that are significant and notable to this artist's career.

This field can include, for example, any of the following:

  • For individuals: groups of which he or she has been a member
  • Other acts with which this act has collaborated on multiple occasions, or on an album, or toured with as a single collaboration act playing together
  • Groups which have spun off from this group
  • A group from which this group has spun off

The following uses of this field should be avoided:

  • Association of groups with members' solo careers
  • Groups with only one member in common
  • Association of producers, managers, etc. (who are themselves acts) with other acts (unless the act essentially belongs to the producer, as in the case of a studio orchestra formed by and working exclusively with a producer)
  • One-time collaboration for a single, or on a single song
  • Groups that are merely similar

I used these criteria to remove M. Ward, Monsters of Folk, Bright Eyes, America and a couple of even more tenuous ones. I added Winter Death Club because MMJ clearly "spun off" from them after Jim James recruited 3 members of that band to form the original 4 piece MMJ.

Perhaps anyone who thinks I've got anything wrong or omitted something could begin a discussion on this page to gain a concensus before further changes are made. Iangurteen (talk) 11:19, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Vocals/Timeline

I don't know how to change those timelines, but I think it would be more appropriate to label Jim's "Vocals" "Lead Vocals" as Carl and Bo sing backing vocals live and did on the latest record.
