Why?[edit]

This does not warrant an article. All episode info is at the episode list, some info is trivia (bedroom info for example), info regarding ratings etc should be merged with a decent section at main article on the programme reviews etc. This article is superflous and should be merged.--UpDown (talk) 19:07, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, this article is warranted due to the shows long history. With a ninth series in production, it makes sense to sort it all out by series. The episode section in this article is much better than the one on the main My Family page anyway, however it may need expanding. Anyway, surely a show with 100+ episodes (after series 9) deserves to have its series better organised. 90.192.200.228 (talk) 19:19, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
With the exception of viewing figures, the episode tables are exactly the same! Just because a show has a long history, that does not mean it needs series by series pages for the sake it, and I don't see in what way its "better organised" to have the same information repeated twice! It is better organised to have all episodes listed on one article. They're should only be series articles if they is a good section on production and reception for that series. This article has a minor section of viewing figures, that could go to main article. The "Critics" section is not specific to this series, so should not be here. Unless this article drastically improves I will merge with episode list/main article.--UpDown (talk) 07:08, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would be better to discuss the matter first, rather than just jumping in to do what you want. Since you seem to know so much about My Family, could you provide a section about production? However, I do agree that the synopsis for each episode could be improved. 90.192.200.223 (talk) 16:02, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hence why I have started a discussion thank you very much. But if no improvement is made within a reasonal space of time then I will merge. I do not have the given information to provide a good section on production (I wish I did), and I do not believe each series needs its own page anyway. The plots need minor expansion, but not much more than that.--UpDown (talk) 16:47, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Production Section[edit]

I have added a small section on production, with the info I have at hand. I am looking for more relevant stuff (such as filming dates) and will add it when I find it. Mpvide65 (talk) 18:16, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Filming dates would be good. Otherwise, the current production section is, again, just general info on My Family production not this series. As the article stands it needs merging.--UpDown (talk) 06:54, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Episode Info[edit]

I think that if the episode synopses are written to a reasonable length (explaining most of the plot) and not just a few lines, then this page can stay. Otherwise the List of My Family episodes article could become extremely lengthy, especially with 100+ episodes (after series 9). As for filming dates, I have no idea where to get them, but am I am looking. Mpvide65 (talk) 18:25, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You must remember not to make them too long. For insistence, I think the perfect length is as seen here: List of Terry and June episodes. I think with the current number of episodes, this would be fine on the main page. Even with longer plot summaries, there is little cause for a seperate page as yet. If the programme goes on as long as Last of the Summer Wine, fine, but not yet.--UpDown (talk) 19:19, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point, however, I must point out three things. The summaries on the Terry and June page are already longer than the My Family ones. Secondly, only two and a half series of Terry and June episodes have been written up and third, that article is fairly long already. When the rest are written up (quite a lot to do!) it will be even longer. Besides, Terry and June lasted (only) 65 episodes so if written to that standard, the My Family page will be huge. So I still think the separate articles for each page are necessary, that way the plots can be expanded. Mpvide65 (talk) 20:43, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know the plots for Terry and June are longer, that's how long I think all episode summaries should be. The page will not be that long when completed, certainly not longer than is acceptable. Neither will the My Family episode list be "huge", look at other episode lists like Friends. Articles can be that long. If it was decided to split series by series the whole page would be need to be reorganised, like the Last of the Summer Wine episode list. We cannot have repeated plot summaries at two articles. Also, this article if it stays does need a serious tidy. For a start, all general My Family info should be removed - thats what the main article is there for.--UpDown (talk) 07:15, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The general info can go but the section covering differences with other series can stay, providing references are given. Anyway, the List of My Family episodes page cannot be reorganised until every series is written up, which will take a while. Mpvide65 (talk) 16:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Only if the differences are not trivial, which frankly they are. I do not believe this page can stand on its on, and would be far better as one page.--UpDown (talk) 16:52, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just looking at the Last of the Summer Wine series pages and I saw that they contain no production details of any kind. As I've said if you allow me to expand the plots to a suitable length (more than two or three lines like the ones at Last of the Summer Wine (series 1)), then I'm sure the page can stay. Mpvide65 (talk) 16:59, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Last of the Summer Wine has seperate due to the huge number of episodes, My Family nowhere near matches this. As I've said, all plot summaries, I think, should be the length of those at Terry and June, and in fact S8 of My Family.--UpDown (talk) 17:08, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is my personal opinion that having separate articles on different series means the episode summaries can be made longer i.e not just a quick explanation. I know Last of the Summer Wine has 275 episodes (something like that) compared to My Family's 90, but 90 is still a lot and I think the separate series articles are a good idea.
