Multiple sources in many countries, far more than an ordinary rape and murder in Thailand or even Texas. WP:GNG pass.

Title[edit]

I'm thinking this should be renamed to Murder of Nicole Sauvain-Weisskopf, in line with our other "murder of" articles, but I didn't want to do it without bringing it up here first. Just let me know if you disagree. ASUKITE 13:59, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wholeheartedly agreed, though seeing as only the majority of international outlets seem to be holding off on naming the victim, maybe this could wait until sources independently confirm the identity. The previous title was hopelessly confusing and imprecise, though, and I have for now renamed the article to 2021 Phuket tourist murder. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:03, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree both names, Murder of Nicole Sauvain-Weisskopf and 2021 Phuket tourist murder, are better than the original title. Good that it is a redirect, not deletion. That way, it can be found if one forgot the year. Charliestalnaker (talk) 19:42, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The first question I had upon seeing this article's title turn up for assessment was "What is a tourist doing being murdered in Phuket in August 2021?", as I didn't think there would be a significant number of tourists going there at the moment, due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The fact that Nicole Sauvain-Weisskopf was a Swiss diplomat means she is not an ordinary tourist, so the title Killing of Nicole Sauvain-Weisskopf is the more precise title and follows the naming convention for murders, prior to trial and conviction of any suspected perpetrator. Until the justice system reaches a conclusion about this case, I think it best to not call it a murder until a conviction occurs. To do otherwise is speculation in anticipation of a judicial outcome. In the interests of a fair trial, many countries suppress various facts in such cases, at least until after a perpetrator is found guilty and convicted of a crime, and given an appropriate sentence according to the prevailing law. In some respects it is too soon to write this article, but since it is now written, Wikipedia should now respect the judicial processes as these take their course to reach a conclusion. Suspected murder[edit]

I don't think it is appropriate to say this article is about a suspected murder without attributing the suspicion to somebody saying so. Who is that person making this claim and why do they hold that opinion? The headlines of the cited sources all say Death so i cannot tell who is making such a claim. If such claims are not attributed to the speculator then Wikipedia, itself, can be seen as editorializing and such speculation is potentially seen as being original research or editorially bias. there is a difference between Wikipedia saying someone said it and Wikipedia editors saying it directly. Saying "X suspected murder" is not the same as "[Wikipedia] suspected murder". When in August did this happen?[edit]

The vague wording about the victim being discovered in August needs clarification. When did the victim arrive in Phuket and when and where was the victim last seen alive? If Police have arrested a suspect on 7 August and the victim was dead 3 days before she was found, the Thai police have been very expeditious in solving this case within a week. So why does Wikipedia have to be so vague and allow a whole month for the victim's body to be found within when, causally, it can only happen on one of 7 days.
