Portmanteau[edit]

@Fgnievinski: The link to "portmanteau" has no relevance to this article -- it's a linguistic, not a computing term. See WP:BTW "Internal links can add to the cohesion and utility of Wikipedia, allowing readers to deepen their understanding of a topic by conveniently accessing other articles. Ask yourself, "How likely is it that the reader will also want to read that other article?"". What's the chance that a reader wants to read about "portmanteau" when they stumble on this article about a rather technical term? And MOS:DAB in general only recommends linking to articles that have relevance to the subject, otherwise they just confuse people and increase the cognitive burden without being useful. -- intgr [talk] 09:56, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Intgr: WP:UNDERLINK states "What generally should be linked: articles explaining words"; in contrast, WP:OVERLINK says "What generally should not be linked: everyday words understood by most readers in context". I do not think portmanteau is such a common word, specially because of its French origin. If it's unlinked, we might just simply say instead "blend word" (with or without the link). I think we need a third person's opinion. Fgnievinski (talk) 16:15, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm not entirely convinced, but I can let it slide. -- intgr [talk] 21:35, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
