This week's issue of Private Eye reveals that the PR agency Portland Communications has admitted to anonymously editing this article via 83.244.252.242 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), claiming that "Ablyazov's PR team had created an extremely biased and inaccurate biographical entry for him". According to the Italian magazine Oggi which is mentioned also by Italian leading daily Corriere della Sera According to thease sources, based on the words of lawyer Riccardo Olivo, from leading law firm Vassalli, on 28 May 2013 a big operation (50 officers) was mounted by Italian police in Rome to arrest Mr Abylazov who had fled there after the British police informed him of plans to kill him in London. Mr Abylazov was not found. Instead his wife and 6 years old doughter were swiftly expelled to Kazakhstan on flimsy ground. In particular, according to the lawyer, there were no charges against the woman and she was in possession of a regular Kazakh passport and a Shenghen area permit of residence, but she had also a passport of Central African Republic that the police deemed to be fake althoug yhe african embassy confirmed its regularity. On the ground of possessing a fake document the woman was then expelled to Kazakhstan with speed rarely seen in Italy and using a procedure never applied. Although she had offered to leave voluntarly to another destination, she was transfered to Kazakstan on 31st may 2013 on a chartered jet that had been waiting in Rome Ciampino airport. According to the lawyer, Rome magistrates (he quotes by name) had tried to stop the procedure but there was too much pressure on them. Ulivo Diritto (talk) 06:09, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Is this guy Jewish?, or are his ancestors Jewish? I know there were a lot of Jews who moved there in the 20th century. Is he Muslim today? (70% of Khazaks are). Christian? (26% of Khazaks are). Mukhtar Ablyazov (born 16 May 1963, Galkino, South Kazakhstan) is a Kazakh dissident, businessman and political opponent of Kazakh President. He is the co-founder of the Democratic Choice for Kazakhstan, an opposition movement against the ruling regime of Kazakhstan . He is currently the subject of a legal investigation in the UK High Court after he allegedly embezzled billions of dollars out of BTA Bank between 2005 and 2009; and now faces a jail threat for failing to comply with a High Court order to reveal his true assets. In January 2014, he was ordered to be extradited from France to Ukraine or Russia, preferably to Russia. On April 18, 2015, his wife, Alma Shalabayeva launched a petition claiming that such extradition would put him in danger due to his political activity.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, when Kazakh economy faced serious structural changes, which caused shortages of food and other consumer goods, endless queues and depreciation of currency, in 1992 Ablyazov established a small company “Madina” named after his first daughter. His business focused on the supplies of food (sugar, sault, flower, pasta etc), to all regions of Kazakhstan. Later on, he founded such companies as Astana-Sugar, Astana-Food, Aral-Sault, Chimkent Pasta Factory, Astana-Medservice, Astana-Motors, Astana-Bank etc, which formed Astana Holding. In 1998, together with a consortium of Kazakhstan investors, he acquired shares in Bank TuranAlem in a privatization auction for $72 million, using loan funds, and gradually extinguished his loan afterwards. The bank later came to be known as BTA Bank. It became the first private bank in Kazakhstan and, as of 2008, the fourth biggest bank in CIS.

The changes by Shikolad12 (talk) seem to promote Ablyazov, esp. in the lead (adding peacock info, removed UK court ruling). I do not want to revert them all since some good changes were made and the previsou version was also not OK. However, someone other than me might check it and revert, if need be. Both versions seem to misinterpret the cited sourced but Shikolad12 frequnetly added or substantially changed sourced content without providing new refs. For example, this BBC is used in both versions as reference but does not contain such info; new ref should support the claim that BTA " in 2008 received "Best Bank" award from the Global Finance Journal", whereas the article is a list of one (the best) bank from "every" country, etc. The article needs major reworking; it would be probabyl easier to revert, check the original version, and use some of the sourced info Shikolad12 has provided. --WikiHannibal (talk) 16:22, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

I reverted Shikolad12's edits - he continued to misinterpret the sources (using references that did not include info they were supposed to back up) and adding unsources non neutral info. For example, in his recent edits he added these pieces of info (see below, in italics) without adding the source, while the original source (1) does not include them: In 1986 Ablyazov earned a degree in theoretical physics from National Research Nuclear University MEPhI. keep 1st para edit on $6 billion fraud & embezzlement

Request that this end be affirmed by community to stay: Ablyazov's public notoriety is attributable to his alleged embezzlement of $6 billion from BTA Bank while serving as chairman.

This alleged embezzlment is the central event that has give this person worldwide notoriety or awareness. Absent this embezzlement charge, this person would not be well know out side of Kazakhstan. This information deserves to be at the top of the article. Additionally, the charge is the basis of the entire second paragraph and is important in giving context to much of the information in the entire article. User:Meatsgains continues to remove this key information without adequately giving WP:RVREASONS for why the information should not be kept. Clear information of the alleged embezzlement of $6 billion from BTA Bank is WP:REL, WP:Correct and WP:NOTEWORTHY

Thorough out this article the website mukhtarablyazov.org is used as a source. This source WP:NOTRELIABLE and is inappropriate for use. The sites About page states: mukhtarablyazov.org is a project launched by the Open Dialog Foundation, aimed at presenting the opposition politician and businessman from Kazakhstan, Mukhtar Ablyazov. This website is clearly a PR effort, is not an objective source (probably amounting to WP:SELFSOURCE) and should not be used as a primary source in this article. I am bringing attention to it here Talk:Mukhtar_Ablyazov and will await and welcome other editors to comment. Eventually I will be WP:BOLD and remove content attributed to this source. As I said I would do, I've removed content that depended on mukhtarablyazov.org as a source, and depended on sources that were not verifiable due to dead urls. This article was WP:Biased with these sources.--Tevincoleman26 (talk) 22:53, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

trouble adding source

I'm having trouble adding a source. Something in the URL is causing a bug and the section will not display when url is added. Any help is appreciated. It is in Personal Life section / However, a High Court judge held Ablyazov in contempt and imposed three prison sentences for failing to disclose assets including a nine bedroom mansion in London's "Billionaire's Row" and a 100-acre estate in Windsor Great Park. Mukhtar Ablyazov → Muhtar Abliazov – He is Kazakh so I highly believe his name should be transliterated from it since the current Wikipedia article uses his Russian name when he isn't. • • Comment Yeah, that's because websites like Wikipedia keep promoting the misinformation of his name. If you type person's name in web searches, Wikipedia will always come up the first page and many people tend to copy the first known result just like this page. It's just the letter "y" as it is transliterated from Russian makes the "ы" sound which is different than from the letter "y" we use in our English alphabet. I do see articles and names that use Muhtar instead of Mukhtar. I feel like changing the article name to make his name transliteration more logical. Of course, I decided to be more cautious about it hence is why I made this discussion about it. Shadowzpaev (talk) 11:45, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
