Location of Mudgee[edit]

The article begins by saying that Mudgee is in eastern NSW. Although that is logical enough in one way if you simply look at a map, most people in NSW would not describe it in that way, so it is potentially confusing. A more usual description would be say that it is in the Central West of NSW, so unless anyone has strong objections I shall change it to reflect that. No gold found in Mudgee?[edit]

The article states "While no gold was found in Mudgee itself" which may not be entirely correct. According to http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/48613193 "Men digging the site for a new hospital at Mudgee have struck gold, only three or four feet below the surface. However, the gold is not plentiful enough to sell at a profit. An old miner made the first strike three weeks ago, and other workers have since found quartz and gold dust." According to Bonzle.com this was known as the Lawson Creek Mine. There was also an underground mine (Derale Gold Mine) which according to Ozexplorer waypoints and Bonzle.com appears to have been located in the vicinity of Duoro St around the Flirtation Hill/Mudgee Showground area. I cannot find any production records relating to this mine and Minview (NSW Trade & Investment Resources & Energy) says it was a vein occurance of size occurance only. According to Ozexplorer waypoints and Bonzle.com two other gold mines were also located on the outskirts of Mudgee. The Gaoi Open Cut Mine (placer occurance size occurance only), which appears to have been located somewhere behind where Bunnings is now situated, and the Lawsons Paddock Open Cut Mine (placer occurance size occurance only) located near the junction of Lawson Creek and the Cudgegong River. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.140.149.58 (talk) 23:51, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blackman family[edit]

While fixing the blacklisted link, I went looking for references in relation to James/John Blackman. The more references I find the more confused I become about who is who in the Blackman family. There was a James Blackman, who had a numbers of sons including James junior and John (and others), all of whom seem to have been pioneers in the district. A number of sources are unclear which Blackman is being talked about and some seem to attribute various claims to different family members. If anyone knows Mudgee history, I'd welcome input on who's who! Kerry (talk) 02:25, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
