Mountain Name[edit]

Alberta stripped Pétain's name from the mountain in 2019 and BC has now followed. It is unnamed until the provinces can come to an appropriate alternative. Continuing to call it "Mount Pétain" will not be correct, but "Unnamed Peak" is a little too generic. Should a placeholder be Unnamed Peak (Formerly Mount Pétain) until the new name is chosen? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:56A:7834:4100:178:1AC9:E8B7:516A (talk) 23:49, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

With BC officially rescinding the name as of June 29, 2022, I've boldly made the name change I found most appropriate, as the name "Mount Petain" is no longer accurate. Until it is officially renamed, I think the current title works. I invite any discussion.— Crumpled Firecontribs 14:04, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Unnamed Alberta-BC mountain" is an unhelpful title that fails to identify the mountain. Until a new name is chosen, Petain should probably remain somewhere in the title. I second "(Formerly Mount Petain)" or some variation thereof. 2620:0:1019:10:9E27:BAA:5539:A506 (talk) 18:42, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, how about "Unnamed Alberta–BC mountain (formerly Mount Petain)"? Or if you have a better, perhaps shorter, alternative I'm all ears.— Crumpled Firecontribs 23:16, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That is a sensible suggestion, I've done it. CT55555 (talk) 06:05, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved back to Mount Pétain, without prejudice against another RM if a new common name emerges. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 00:32, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unnamed Alberta–BC mountain (formerly Mount Pétain) → ? – "Unnamed Alberta–BC mountain (formerly Mount Pétain)" is not the WP:COMMONNAME of this location, and violates WP:CONCISE. If no alternatives can be identified I would support reverting back to "Mount Pétain" until the mountain is given a new name. BilledMammal (talk) 19:18, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Mount Petain has been officially removed as the name for this mountain for a very good reason. I have no issue with the current title, albeit rather lengthy. Perhaps could shorten it to Unnamed mountain (formerly Mount Pétain). RedWolf (talk) 21:00, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support moving back until a new name is chosen (barring a better suggestion). That the name is no longer official is neither here nor there. Srnec (talk) 20:21, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support moving back to Mount Pétain. Even though it's no longer officially named that, Mount Pétain is what people are going to call it when they need to discuss this place. WP:COMMONNAME is the governing guideline in this case. Indefatigable (talk) 16:20, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support moving back to Mount Pétain, which is undoubtedly what it's known as rather than "Unnamed Alberta–BC mountain". -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:51, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support while keeping the lede similar to how it is now, similar to how Mahatma Gandhi has his full name listed. --(Roundish t) 02:09, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
