One man & one ox?[edit]

The definition of this unit is given as "the amount of land tillable in the morning hours of a day by one person behind an ox or horse dragging a single bladed plough"; however there is a long discussion here that suggests this arrangement is unlikely, that ploughing with oxen typically involved two men with a team of two beasts. So should this be "one man and a horse or one plough team of two men and two oxen"? And where does it come from? There isn’t a source given for it (and if this definition is embedded in folklore, would it be reliable anyway?) Does anybody know? Moonraker12 (talk) 10:32, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
