Someone seems to be under the impression that Patrick M. played pinochio. If this is indeed so, perhaps this fact should be included in the corresponding article. I doubt whether anyone who may be searching for this celebrity astronomer would identify him as involved in amateur theatricals. List of famous people

This list also appears in Moore (surname) page. Having the same kind of information in two places leads inevitably to errors or confusion. For me, the best is to move the whole list in the Moore (surname) page. Who can tell who is more 'famous' than others ? For how long ? Hi, I just realized that you deleted the carefully compiled list of people named Moore from this disambiguation page. What on earth made you do that, and why, on top of that, did you hide it as a minor edit?

It seems you couldn't even be bothered to compare the list here with that at List of people before embarking on your deletionist venture. If you had done so, you might have noticed that lots of names are missing from the list you are referring to, possibly orphaning quite a number of stubs. If you had carefully transferred all new pieces of information to the "List of people", we could have argued what the point of removing material from a disambiguation page might be. The way you acted, however, seems rather irresponsible.

A suggestion, perhaps what is needed is an expansion of the List of people by name: Moo-Moq to include all those people named Moore listed on this page. And then use this disambiguation page to link to that list? That seems to be the way Wikipedia is going as pages expand, otherwise we'd end up with a phenomenally long page listing all the places, people, significant mentions etc of the name Moore. done an initial explanation of spellings and meanings. I'm not 100% sure of the accuracy of the last meaning - (association with Moorage and boating) so discussion may be needed on this point. Article or disambiguation page

This page is problematic as a disambiguation page. People looking for something Moore will have a bit of a time trying to find the appropriate article from here. My suggestion would be to rename the main part of this article to Moore (surname) and create a standard dab page for Moore.

The surname page would include the details about its origin, etc. and a link to a list of people with the surname and/or a list of links to articles to an important subset of that list.

The dab page would be just that, a standard WP:MOSDAB page for the word Moore.

C.S. Lewis

I've moved it here in case somebody wants it - and deleted it from the article:

There has been some speculation among some Lewis scholars as to the nature of the relationship between Lewis and Jane Moore. Lewis for most of his life introduced Moore as his "mother" to all his acquaintances. Lewis was exceptionally reticent on the matter in his autobiography, writing only "All I can or need to say is that my earlier hostility to the emotions was very fully and variously avenged". The biographer A. N. Wilson declared categorically that they had been intimate during the period of his convalescence, but this seems to be based on few and poorly interpreted letters, and owes something to Wilson's tendency to psychological interpretation. Walter Hooper, Lewis's literary executor, allowed that it was possible, but as a late acquaintance his data are all derivative, as are Wilson's. George Sayer, who was a student of Lewis and later a friend, wrote that, after talking to Jane Moore's daughter Maureen (later Maureen Dunbar), he was quite certain that they were lovers. At any rate, their friendship was certainly a very close one. In December 1917 Lewis wrote in a letter to his childhood friend Arthur Greeves that Jane and Greeves were "the two people who matter most to me in the world."

After the war, in 1918 or 1919, Lewis and Moore shared a house, although Lewis also kept rooms at his college, and in 1930, they and Lewis's brother, Warren Lewis, moved into "The Kilns", a house in Risinghurst, Headington (a suburb of Oxford). They all contributed financially to the purchase of the house, which passed to Lady Dunbar of Hempriggs, Moore's daughter, when Warren died in 1973.

Moore has been much criticized for being possessive and controlling and making Lewis do a lot of housework. However, she was also a warmhearted, affectionate and hospitable woman who was well liked by her neighbours at The Kilns. "She was generous and taught me to be generous, too", Lewis said to his friend George Sayer.

Moore suffered from dementia in her later years and was eventually moved into a nursing home, where she died in 1951. Lewis visited her every day in this home until her death. (John User:Jwy talk) 00:56, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey, that wasn't vandalism!

I think it makes sense to put famous people at the top, and I'm re-instating my attempt to start this with John Moore. Famous people are surely the most likely targets. I am not suggesting JM is the only one, GE Moore also qualifies; but they do need to be rescued from the rabble, simply for convenience. Famousness may be assessed by googling. <"John Moore" 1809> scores 64,000, and <"John Moore" Corunna> 23,000.

Famous people lost again - and potentially rescued

Surely the most likely enquirers for Moore are those looking for world-famous people (see my note above). I suggest a 'World-famous people' page should be the first for Moore, with reference to other Moore surnames, places, film stars, TV shows etc.

The present situation is dire, with the most famous Moore (Sir John, d. Corunna 1809) being almost impossible to find.

I've made two new sections at the start, "Well-known people" and "People in general". A degree of well-knownness is needed to get an entry at all, but I haven't addressed that.

What I have done is to rescue some famous people from the ruck, and put them under a "Famous people" section, while leaving them intact on the "Moore surname" page.

I have ranked them in order of fame, using the formula: rank = 20*y + (g-5) where y is number of years since death (zero if alive), and g is the number of thousands of google hits. g needs to be taken from a tailored google search, that is e.g. <"Michael Moore" film director> <"Henry Moore" sculptor>, rather than just <"Michael Moore">

Some such formula should produce a more concise list of entries likely to be sought. John Wheater (talk) 19:17, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

What is the point of havving some of the people with this surname listed on this article? Wouldn't it be better if they were all on the List of people with surname Moore, which is linked from this article? Listing some on both pages in not usually what is done when there is a separate article for those with a surname. Determining notability by Google is not accurate, and in any case, the List article should include everyone with the surname who has an article on English Wikipedia.
