Is "inmate" the proper term for a member of an ashram? It seems awfully harsh (but I'm American, not British or Indian).

chosen name[edit]

Madeleine Slade did not choose the name "meerabehn", it was given to her by Gandhi.

Mira Behn to Mirabehn[edit]

I've moved the article from Mira Behn to Mirabehn. The article had been moved in April without discussion by Thapa 75 who explained the move as "A quick search on Google reveals this name is used everywhere except on Wikipedia". When I do a search on "Mirabehn", I get somewhere in the 19.9k range for "Mirabehn" and only 8300 for "Mira Behn". It's unclear what provocative Google information persuaded Thapa to move the article, but the move should have been preceded by a discussion here. The subsequent find/replace performed by Thapa was indiscriminate, and resulted in the inappropriate renaming of things like this article title, which should clearly be "Mirabehn", not "Mira Behn". Mirabehn's travels[edit]

Hello @Jadedhippo,

You have edited on Mirabehn's page stating that Mirabehn was "requesting to stay at his (Gandhi's) ashram" and removed the sentence "Thereafter, Gandhi sent her to Bhagwat Bhakti Ashram of Rewari". According to her book The Spirit's Pilgrimage and mkgandhi.org, Mirahben wrote a letter to Gandhi asking permission to stay at Sabarmati ashram with him, which what you added was true. He wrote a letter back stating permission was granted. During her stay she went with him to Wardha ashram and Kanpur for the Congress Session, and then returned to Sabarmati. After about a year she was still struggling with the language in North India such as Hindi and Gujarati so Gandhi sent her to Kanya Gurukul to learn the language. After some time at the Gurukul, Gandhi sent her to Bhagwadbhakti Ashram of Rewari. So the sentence you removed should be kept because it is still accurate information. Thank you. Hi, @Hecatesss. Thank you for catching this and explaining. I must have confused the two ashram's that were mentioned (Sabarmati & Bhagwadbhakti). You can add back that piece of information. My apologies. Thank you! Jadedhippo (talk) 21:23, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @Hecatesss! I see you've already added back that information. It is much more clear now, thank you! I think there's still a lot of potential with this article, especially in conveying Mirabehn's role in the Indian independence movement. Would be great if you could help out!
