Improve or correct insignia photos[edit]

• There is only one set of rank insignia in Tatmadaw whether Army, Navy or Air Force.
• The name of ranks in Burmese are the same for all three branches. Navy ranks are also the same as Army and Air Force; Navy ranks have different translation only in English.

• The colour of shoulder-strap varies according to the colour of uniform, not according to the branch. If you want to make the same insignia with different shoulder-strap colours, the ones you've made are not enough.

• The State Seal is embedded in all the insignia , including the button, of Commissioned Officers. The insignia are originally made of gold, but battlefield insignia are made of bronze.<vr>
• The shoulder-straps of General, Vice-Senior General and Senior General have additional decoration : golden lines.

• Ranks are related to the appointment; for example, a Lieutenant General appointed as Commander-in-Chief of Air Force has to be promoted to General rank within a year.

• The military rank insignia (or similar rank insignia) are also worn by government civilian departments and non-government organizations. Even, the Myanmar Red Cross and the Shwedagon Pagoda Guards wear such type of rank insignia. Also, there are other types of rank insignia used in Myanmar. So, we have to create a new page: Rank insignia in Myanmar to be more inclusive.

• Rank insignia of Myanmar Police Force should be moved from this military ranks to another new article,
because they have different colours (silver) and different names although having the same set.
Myanmar Immigration also have that same set of silver insignia but different names.

• Current military ranks are updated in 27 March 1990 when Saw Maung was promoted from General to Senior General, created by the Department of Military Appointment in early that year. Before that day, General is the highest rank in Tatmadaw.

Firstly since you came here to ask for input in these changes please refrain from a complete change of the article page until people have discussed the matter here. Since you are from Myanmar you could greatly help by pointing us to official and reliable sources to place as references in the article. A large part of you complaint seems to revolve around "English translations" of the Burmese ranks titles, but that is not applicable to the article as all rank titles in the article are given in Burmese and transliterated Burmese, so your complaint there is a non-issue. Changes to the images themselves are best handled by either Skjoldbro or MrInfo2012 as they can provide properly formatted SVG files for the ranks, unless you are able to create SVG files with the needed corrections နေနီဝန်း. Added a section explaining how the ranks are tied to certain appointments could be possible, if you can provide a good reference for it. Other non-military organisations that wear the same rank insignia could be done in another page, as is the case for other countries, again references will be needed. The Myanmar Police Ranks are included in this article as from the references I have found the Police are considered part of the military forces alongside the Tatmadaw. The BGF (made of former insurgency forces) as far as I can find from official sources do use Army ranks and insignia, and whilst incorporated into Army structures for planning and operations, are separate from the Army. @Cdjp1:. Lol. What you referred to as "transliterated Burmese" are actually not transliterated Burmese. (Even a native Burmese can't pronounce properly.) I think you guys used something like Google translate. Tatmadaw don't use any transliteration for its ranks, it only use pure Burmese and English translation. For the BGF case, I gave sources from news articles. In 2017, the media and news agencies were warned not to used military rank insignia terms for forces other than Army, Navy and Air Force (Ref: BBC and Frontier Myanmar). But before that, senior leaders of BGF were given the rank insignia by CiCDS in 2014, calling them as "Honourary Commissioned Officers" (Ref: Myanmar Times). The army structures is related to the rank because in higher ranks, the ranks are promoted according to appointment. It is hard to find official documents about rank insignia because they are restricted to public, to prevent from imitations. Yet there are several posts from Facebook (which is considered by wiki as user-created) and Blogspot (which is blocked by wiki) explaining them with real photos of insignia. For now we may use most reliable among the Facebook posts, website (other than blogspot) and photos from news as a source before we can find an official documentation. By the way, we can expend the subject of rank insignia more than military one; for example, the ones of Myanmar Immigration are the same as those of Myanmar Police Force but with different names. Skjoldbro. What about using the insignia without shoulder strap in the table (like in United States Army officer rank insignia)

Romanisation[edit]

Can we improve the romanisation of the ranks? Not only is ALA-LC a bad and internally inconsistent romanisation system for Burmese, but the romanisations on the page don't even follow the ALA-LC romanisation standard. Just looking at it, I assume someone wrote a script which inserted an "a" after every single consonant erroneously and the end result is just unreadable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shachekar (talk • contribs) 03:22, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
