List of books[edit]

I am breaking up the list into categories. Otherwise it is just too many. Assistance is very welcome! gidonb 19:10, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comments by antmusic moved from the article (by gidonb 22:45, 3 October 2006 (UTC)):[reply]

  • I put some questions and comments below for ideas. I am trying to make a pretty complete list on here because I am collecting for my son. I have been putting ISBNs for the original releases for collectors, if I can find them. - Antmusic
  • There's a Nightmare in My Closet (1968) Seperate Category for Nightmare, Alligator, Attic, Everywhere needed? They are a series of sorts - DONE
  • Liza Lou and the Yeller Belly Swamp (1976)* ISBN 0819308013 1997 was a rerelease date
  • A Poison Tree and Other Poems (illustrated by Mercer Mayer)(1977)Seperate Illustrations For Others category needed? - DONE
  • Appelard and Liverwurst (with Steven Kellogg) (1978) Seperate "Liverwurst" Category needed?
I have moved the questions to the talk page and left the extra details in the article. I am also collecting the books for my kids (especially Little Critter) so we are pretty much in the same situation. I think your creation of the extra chapters was excellent. As you can see above this was also my initial concern, along with the partial listing. Please go ahead and create also a chapter for the attic series if you believe this is a clear series (OKAY, DONE- Antmusic). I thought however that I heard some hesitance in your voice. Lets not do the re-release dates or the release date of the year, as this information would be available only in too few cases. Rather try to put in an extra ISBN for the re-release. Starting an illustrations for others category also seems an excellent idea to me (DONE-Antmusic). I have not read any Liverwurst books, but lets start categories with minimum three entries and well-defined series. Please also check my categorization. It is great to have another person around who cares about this project! Best regards, gidonb 23:02, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Add the Books that came with Records?[edit]

Do we want a section for Books that came with Records/Cassettes (most on Disneyland Records) like: Merry Christmas Mom and Dad, 1983 (33 1/3, 7 inch record) and Just Grandma and Me, 1983 (33 1/3, 7 inch record)? Antmusic 21:23, 12 October 2006 (UTC) -DONE[reply]

Since this is a different media, or at least an additional media, I think ths is a good idea! gidonb 21:51, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Books that are sometimes incorrectly listed with Mercer Mayer as the author or illustrator[edit]

I am listing books that have been listed as being written by or illustrated by Mercer Mayer, but are not at all (on websites like Amazon, Abebooks, Ebay, and even Library catalogs.

  • Casper and Friends: Boo-o-s on First ( by Stephanie St Pierre, Illustrated by George Wildman) ISBN 0307001210

Question the WIZARD[edit]

  • Is Mrs. Beggs and the Wizard the same book as The Wizard Comes to Town?
  • If they are essentially the same, are there any differences besides the covers?
  • If they are essentially the same, why was the name changed?
I have discovered that they are the same book with different names and titles. I have not found out why this happened, and I have not found out if they are different in any other ways.Antmusic 16:40, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I emailed Mercer Mayer at his official website, and his response on 12/27/06 was, "The marketing department thought the name sounded better, but who knows?" - Mercer Mayer. I asume that there were no other changes since Mr. Mayer did not respond to the other parts of the question, except to say "YES" to the question of if they were the same book. Should the Little Critter books be put into one Long category[edit]

While collecting these books, I have discovered that they have been released in a multitude of styles (EXAMPLE: the same book released as a small board book and as a large lift-the-flap book). Because of this, I am thinking of making it a simple list by date with types of releases in parenthesis next to it. Is this a good idea? Antmusic 16:45, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Movies, cartoons, and shorts based on Mercer Mayer books[edit]

I am thinking about adding a category of, "Movies, cartoons, and shorts based on Mercer Mayer books." I know about:

  • A Boy, A Dog, and a Frog - Live action short
  • Frog Goes to Dinner - Cartoon or Live Action?
  • Frog on His Own - Cartoon or Live Action?
  • Frog Where are You? - Cartoon or Live Action? It is on the "Angus Lost" VHS.
  • Just Me and my Dad - Cartoon
  • Just For You - Cartoon
  • How the Trollusk got His Hat - Cartoon
  • Herbert the Timid Dragon - Cartoon
  • There's a Nightmare in My Closet - Live Action (directed by Gary Templeton)
  • There's a Nightmare in My Closet - Cartoon (Shelly Duvall's Bedtime Stories - Narrated by Michael J. Fox)... Is there another cartoon version narrated by Billy Crystal?
  • There's an Aligator Under My Bed - Cartoon(Shelly Duvall's Bedtime Stories - Narrated by Christian Slater)
  • There's Something in My Attic - Cartoon (Shelly Duvall's Bedtime Stories - Narrated by Sissy Spacek)... and a Live Action?? (Tom Bull was the cinemetographer per entertainment.msn.com, was this for the cartoon version?). Antmusic 23:54, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that 68.33.113.12 added something[edit]

per 68.33.113.12's contribution page, his only other add on was to say, "hi," on a page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/68.33.113.12. So it is unlikely that his addition to this page is accurate. I removed it for now. Does any one know if Mercer Mayer had/has any siblings? Antmusic 16:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright issues[edit]

A lot of this seems to have been copied, with minimal changes, from external sites. Mangoe (talk) 18:28, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article that you marked as this wiki one being copied from, http://www.yourlibrary.ws/childrens_webpage/e-author122000.htm, claims to have taken all of their information from the following:
  1. Anne Commire (ed.). Something About the Author, #16; Gale Research Company: Detroit, Mich., 1979.
  2. Anne Commire (ed.). Something About the Author, #32; Gale Research Company: Detroit, Mich., 1983.
  3. Mayer, Mercer, Educational Paperback Association; http://www.edupaperbacthk.org/authorbios/Mayer_Mercer.html (Currently non-working link).
  4. Ramsey, Inez and Jason Craig. Mercer Mayer; http://falcon.jmu.edu/~ramseyil/mayer.htm.
Which is probably where the original writer of this page, User Mary Read, got their information (original first version of Wiki page by Mary Read from April 2006). The article hasn't changed much since the April 2006 version. Mary Read is still a constant Wikipedian, and if you need to talk about copyright issues, I suggest talking to them. It is possible that other websites have copied from Wikipedia too. Antmusic (talk) 04:27, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name misspelled?[edit]

Noticed every reference in the body text to the author spelled his name 'Meyer.' As far as I can tell from my copies of his books and his website, there's no dispute over the spelling of his name, and it is spelled with an 'a.' Changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.226.97.50 (talk) 23:44, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
