What Gainax did[edit]

Can someone tell me where they found that it was J.C. Staff that created this anime? From everything I have looked into (the TBS page for example) it was a Gainax creation handled with animation handled by J.C. Staff, but if anyone has a source that says other wise change it back Ucdawg12 03:45, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm gonna risk sounding a bit sarcastic here. What 'creating' exactly did gainax do to the anime (read: japanese animation) if they didn't actually animate (read: create) it? To the best of my knowledge, a gainax employee wanted to make BnS, as a computer game, but that didn't happen, and it ended up as a manga and JC Staff anime instead. Anyway, end credits below, for the curious:

If anyone actually has details on specifics of the creation process, would be good to add them to the article. But if you're gonna say it's "by Gainax, with animation handled by J.C.STAFF", be fair and say it's "by Kadokawa Shoten, Ken Media, Gainax, J.C.STAFF and TBS, with animation handled by J.C.STAFF". --zippedmartin 17:32, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
When I say that Gainax created it I mean it in this sense, for example I'll use the manga Hikaru no Go, the story was written by Yumi Hotta but the art was handled by Takeshi Obata. From everything I can find I see that the original story\concept was created by Gainax and the animation process was handled by J.C.STAFF for whatever reason. To continue your example, the credit in HnG is 原作 ほったゆみ // 小畑健 (they both get 'original work' credit). The only credit gainax get in BnS is the one I gave above, in the absence of someone who knows better, I think it's wrong to even suggest they (as a company) are responsible for the storyline, or the anime would say so. Anyway, if I were to make a film version of The Tempest or something, the wiki article on it would look silly reading "The Tempest is a film by William Shakespeare, with cinematography by zippedmartin". But please list "everything [you] can find" here, there's a chance some of it can be cited in the article to clarify the issue - or just go ahead and do it yourself! --zippedmartin 21:32, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, here is what I found: On the TBS homepage for MoO, http://www.tbs.co.jp/boukyaku/ , it has these credits:

Now, I can't read any Japanese so I had to run it through Google's translator, and it said 'Original' for the GJK (author of the MoO manga) kanji (and I see its the same as the one you use for the HnG example) so I guess we can credit the original work for GJK, for GAINAX it says Supervision and for J.C.STAFF it says Animation Production. So maybe it would be better to say something like "...is the original creation of GJK. The anime adaption was supervised by GAINAX and animated by J.C.STAFF..." or something along those lines? --ucdawg12 01:45, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ehehe, I swear that 企画 credit wasn't in the video (and it's not on the J.C. page!). Anyway, doesn't tell me much about what they actually *did*... can be used as a sort of catch-all. Would probably translate better as 'planning' rather than 'supervision', they might have had some input in the script but I doubt they went as far as the storyboards. And I still want to know who 'GJK' actually is and what the hell went on over the whole thing, see this confused news report from 2001, manga wasn't created till 2003. Anyway, this is still 'an anime by J.C.STAFF' - they animated it, it's their work, regardless of where the original concept, story, or financing came from. It's certainly worth mentioning Gainax (and probably GJK) but I'd really like to know the murky history a little better. --zippedmartin 03:04, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not much of use on there, generally the american fanbois seem more wiki-happy than otaku at the moment. Interesting to note though they do mention 片倉真二 (Shinji Katakura) who's credited with コンセプトデザイン (Concept Design) in your credits above, and has some kind of joint on the manga as well. --zippedmartin 01:21, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions[edit]

Hello. I want to make a few suggestions. I think the little red haired girl should be renamed as medusa. besides the obvious references, she is called that by the monsters. i dont think it makes as much sense calling her a little red haired girl and then explaining about medusa as just calling her medusa and explaining why does. I was also considering expanding on some of the Monster Union Agents, since they seem kinda small. any advice would be appreciated. Kage-Lupus 03:02, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yamaga[edit]

AQ In terms of the 4 shows, you mentioned Mahoromatic, Abenobashi and the new series by Mr. Akai. Did you talk about the 4th one?

Mr. Yamaga The name of the 4th series is called the Forgotten Melody. The script is written by Mr. Enokido who worked on Utena and it will run for 15 episodes. AT What was the name of the third series? Mr. Yamaga He (points to Mr. Akai) has decided that the English title is going to be Little Princess U.C. because the Japanese title does not translate well. AQ The Forgotten melody series, what will it be about? Mr. Yamaga I just told Mr Enokido the title and he has come up with 15 episodes so far. It was originally a game that we had previously produced but the story line for the game was rather bland or not flashy enough. Yet again the game got thrown away and the title remains. There is an ongoing comic book series published from Kadokawa by the same title.
