See also?[edit]

Why is RahXephon a "see also"? RahXephon should be a see also for Evangelion, because that is an anime it is similar to. Megazone 23 is much more similar in tone to other 80's Artland projects like Macross or Orguss, or other Artmic projects like Bubblegum Crisis... Shared creators, similar themes, robots that turn into motorcyles...

I would hazard a guess that the RahXephon reference is due to the fact that both shows involve a Tokyo where the residents are completely unaware of the true state of their world. In Megazone, the residents don't realize that they're on a spaceship. In RahXephon, the residents believe that the rest of the world has been destroyed. Whether the state of Tokyo is a significant enough part of the plot to rate a "see also" in this article is probably another matter, though... --Junior612 22:56, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Integrate with Macross articles[edit]

Any chance of someone better integrating this with the assorted Macross articles? Don't know enough about the series to do it myself, though I do vaguely recall it being linked with them... --Sukael 20:03, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)

Megazone has no direct connection with Macross besides being by the same people and incorporating similar thematic elements. Robotech borrows footage from both -- perhaps that's what you're thinking of? Leejc 00:16, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Megazone23-part1-DVDcover.jpg[edit]

Image:Megazone23-part1-DVDcover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:30, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

first profitable OVA[edit]

the opening paragraph talks about megazone 23 being one of the first profitable ova's, wasn't it THE first OVA to make a profit?

It was also noted for being one of the first OVA's (the 9th) if memory serves correct. I'll do some digging but if anyone knows for sure it would be better to state if it was deffinatly the first profit making ova.

Neosophist 01:12, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will back this up. Browsing through several forums shows a consensus that this was one of the first OVA's. Several mention MZ23 is the first, but, of course, forum information is anecdotal at best and inaccurate at worst. I am relying on the general uniformity among disparate forums.) -lompocus [2011]

Proununciation of the title[edit]

In the design section is mentioned that the "Megazone Two Three" pronunciation is a commonplace habit in Western fandom but this isn't an invention of the Western fandom, it was introduced in the first OVA's logo. Maybe we should either remove that phrase or somehow mention that the "Megazone Two Three" pronunciation is present in the OVA itself. Hyper Shinchan (talk) 15:16, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tatsunoko was involved?[edit]

Anime News Network, Internet Movie Databae and Mecha Anime Headquarters, which are all in the external links section of this article show that it was Artland and AIC that animated Megazone 23 and not Tatsunoko. Assuming it was Tatsunoko that licensed this movie to Harmony Gold to make the Robotech movie, they must have done something, right? Or did Harmony Gold deal directly with studios that are known to be involved such as Aartland or AIC to get the rights? The page for Idol Co., Ltd. (the company that made new animation to put into the Robotech movie at the request of Harmony Gold) shows they were also involved in both Megazone 23 and the Robotech movie, so is it possible that Haromny Gold get the rights for the animation from them instead of Tatsunoko? --Primus1x (talk) 19:33, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"war against the Dezalg"[edit]

The description says that there is an "endless war against the Dezalg."

Who and/or what are "the Dezalg?" Perhaps someone who has seen the series can add a bit of additional information, even just a single sentence, telling us whether "the Dezalg" are a political faction, or a secret society, or an alien species, or something else entirely.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.62.17.79 (talk) 16:48, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to who/what are the Dezalg? The Creators of Megazone 23 said that the Dezalg were what humans were called that lived on Mars and underwent genetic changes from the environment. These "New Humans" waged war with the Earth government over who would rule Mars/other parts of the Solar system.

A direct quote from a B-club (Bandai) Timeline from the MZ23 world:

"A.D. 2337:

The population of the Solar System was hovering at roughly

14,000,000,000, due to numerous accidents, wars, and famines. 1,900,000,000 of them inhabited Mars and its satellites, and announced that they had been under the control of the Government of the Terran Federation, but they were establishing the Free Government of Mars, along with an independent planetary state.

Mars maintained an environment barely capable of supporting life,

thanks to terraforming, but on that inferior world, people again underwent a change in their DNA levels.

A new human race was born, and those who lived on Mars were called

"Dezalg" by those on Earth."
