Unofficial guidelines for inclusion on the list of companies in this article[edit]

There are over 150 meal kit companies. This list is intended to be only the most notable ones. Please do not add any external links to meal kit web sites, per WP:PROMO. If the company has a Wikipedia article, please link to that. If the company has media coverage in a reliable source but doesn't have an article yet, please cite the best source. If you plan to write an article for any of the unlinked companies, feel free to wiki-link but it will be red linked until the article is complete. Any entry added without media coverage (indicating lack of notability) will be removed. Please feel free to discuss these unofficial guidelines on the talk page. I think only companies with an article should be on the list. Otherwise a bunch of local meal kit services with only local sources also get on the list. If they fail WP:NCORP, they are not noteworthy enough for inclusion here. Mottezen (talk) 08:01, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

HelloFresh[edit]

I know that HelloFresh should have an article. I restored and cleaned up their article but missed a quick deletion discussion [[1]]. The closer didn't know that they are the #2 meal kit company in the US, behind Blue Apron, so as soon as there's more media coverage I'll probably recreate their article and add the new sources. Who was first?[edit]

There are two sources, which credit different companies as being the first meal kit company. The dates suggest Middasfrid was first, but for now I added verbiage explaining why the article is not more definitive. TimTempleton ^(talk) ^(cont) 23:45, 5 December 2017 (UTC).[reply]

The danish company Aarstiderne launched its meal kits in 2003 as "SingleKassen". Source

Meal Kit Operations[edit]

Meal Kit operations comprise of 3 major parts that constitute different skill sets and tasks.

1. Provide Recipes

The first step in Meal Kit operation includes devising the recipe for which Meal Kit needs to be manufactured. Typically chefs write the meta information of Ingredients after testing it in their R&D kitchen.

2. Manufacture

Meal Kit contains all the ingredients portioned in the quantity according to the recipe. There are 2 steps followed in the production of Meal Kit.

2.1 Portioning of Ingredient

Ingredients needs to be weighed in the quantity. Lets say for a recipe that requires 2 TBSP of Parmesan Cheese as its ingredient, the operator would have to dispense the right quantity by weighing and then packing it in a suitable packaging. The quantity needs to be accurate for each ingredients as any Meal Kit consumer use the quantity of Ingredient packed fully and thus if quantity of any critical ingredient such as Salt is higher or lower, it may ruin the recipe. This is one of the cardinal sin that a Meal Kit company can do to affect the consumer experience.

2.2 Assembly

Once all the ingredients of a Meal Kit are packed, these ingredients needs to be assembled in a master package. It is absolute vital to make sure that all ingredients are included in the box. This is second cardinal sin that affects the consumer experience.

3. Sell and Deliver

The final step of the operation is the commerce. Generally companies rely on website and mobile application to show their product offering to consumers.
